1967 RS question

I know a gentlemen who got a 1967 RS recently and he asked me to help him decode it so after lots of research I found out the car was an originaly a RS with a Z28 package with a 302 engine in Tahoe Turquiose. The gentlemen offered it to me for $2000, should I jump on the deal?

Currently the car has no interior except a cracked dash pad, the exterior is straight and rust free, I have yet to go over and pull the codes from the drivetrain to verify if its original. I would like this car but worried about how hard it would be to find and collect NOS parts and a maybe a 302 engine.

Also does anyone know the possible production numbers of the '67 s with that package combo?

Re: 1967 RS question

I would buy the car. For 2000 bucks, buy it, and if you need to sell it... put it on e-bay or so. 1967 Z28 Camaros are rare and are bringing big bucks.

Re: 1967 RS question

There were only 602 67 Z28's produced, without the RS option added. I am not 100% sure how many Z28/RS 67's there are. If I were you, I would jump all over this deal, hands down, no question in my mind. Good luck! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: 1967 RS question

Get the VIN and the Cowl Tag info and post if so it can be decoded Also get the engine code and the partial VIN off the engine pad in the same area, If you know the guy and he really has a 67 RS and only wnats 2 grand for it go for it. A plain Jane 67 RS is worth way more than that without it being a Z28. If it is in fact a numbers matchin 67 RS/Z28 you could be taken to jail for stealing it so cheap. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ALso get a hold of Denis here on the site or visit his site as he can give you all the info you need to figure out if its a true 67 Z or not.

Re: 1967 RS question

Thanks for those quick reply's https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I am hoping he sticks with his price. I was very honest with him on how uncommon of a car this is and he appreciated it and after he had all the info still offered it to me for $2000, I wanted to kiss his feet https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Here is the cowl plate info that I got:
12C ................. 0242
ST 67-12437.......LOS-15402 BDY
TR 760-2 .........L-2 PNT
WL 2MGS ......... 3LL
5BY

I don't have the engine #'s yet but will be going over to his house hopefully this week to crawl all over this car for all the drivetrain #'s. The only thing that is totally throwing me is the powerglide and 302? Every place I have read says it just wasn't available yet the cowl plate says it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif I found a web site that listed 48 z28's were painted that L code, Tahoe Turquoise, in 1967, 254 RS's were painted that L code also..could that be true? How much would this car really be worth when restored back to its full glory? I am extremely excited to maybe have found a real gem.

Re: 1967 RS question

If the body tag info is correct as posted the car is not a Z/28.

Re: 1967 RS question

Something must be in the air...I had a guy from Kansas call me on Friday with a gold RS Z...or so he thought. He just bought it for $3,800 and didn't know it was a Z. I asked him how he found out it was a Z-28 and he replied, "because it has the Z-28 interior" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I had him go out to his garage and read me the tag - October built RS. Oh well, better luck next time!

Re: 1967 RS question

It's definitely not a Z-28. Still $2000 is cheap for a rust free RS.

BTW, there were 602 1967 Z-28's total... that includes the few with the RS trim option.

Re: 1967 RS question

Thanks for the reconfirmation that I had read it wrong, kept thinking its too good of a deal for that car.

He did bring me the engine # off of the front of the block which helped me decide on whether or not to for sure go ahead with the deal, engine # T1207MN, T=Tonawanda, 12=December, 07=day of the month, MN=327/275 four barrel with PG and A.I.R. Looks to be the original motor he said with a 4 barrel and cast iron intake and air cleaner. He isn't sure if it even runs.

We are going over this week to take another look at it and pull some more numbers, he isn't in a hurry at all and says to take our time figuring out what it is before we say yes or no to it. I am thinking more and more that I would really like it to restore, always dreamed about owning a 1st gen RS in original condition as of right now we only own a 70 sport coupe that is modified.

Also I know very little about what rear end was available in the 67's...would it happen to be a 12 bolt or a 10 bolt?

I'll get some pic's of this car when I go to drool over it again https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: 1967 RS question

That's a great price for a 67 RS 327/275 car. With the powerglide, it should have the 10 bolt rear. Sounds like it has the original engine. You may not want to waste too much time, if he mentions he has a Camaro for sale to anyone else for $2000, they'll jump on it real quick. Buy it quick, then go through the numbers later. You'll never lose money on the car at that price.

JD,
What's the address where this RS is parked? I could take a little vacation and check it over for you. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Seriously, you can't go wrong for that money. especially a 327/275 car. Go for it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: 1967 RS question

The 67-8 RS's came with at least the 3.08:1 10-bolt.

Hey at least its the better of the two 327's. Heck if its rust free and straight its definitely worth $2000 since its all original. Heck it'd be worth buying even if you just throw it up on ebay. With the right marketing and description it might even fetch $10K. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif beautiful car Rick.

It amazes me what a collectible car the first gens have become and the price they can fetch in any condition. If we get this one it will be our first 67-69 Camaro, we have owned 4 70-73's and 1 4th gen (parts car, mmmm Lt1 drivetrain for something https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif ).

Go look at the car again and remember to take $2000 and a tow vehicle with you.
Then when you get home you can celebrate a great find. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: 1967 RS question

You bet I hope to have a loooooong shopping list for the swap meet https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

The sale of this car has been very much under wraps and he didn't advertise just asked me if I would like to buy it out of the blue after it got decoded and how excited I was over it. He hasn't had it very long because he got it from a renter he had evicted and the car was in the rental house backyard full of garbage. He dragged it home after the court said the renter told him he could take the car in lieu of some of the past due rent. He had no idea what the car was worth or even what it was. I know him from my work he is a regular customer I chat with that has become a good friend. I don't think honestly he would sell it out from under me.

Re: 1967 RS question

Make sure you can get a good title for it before you hand over any cash. And I still wouldn't wait. If the owner has mentioned selling it to you, he will mention it to someone else even if it's in idle conversation.

JDBlazer472 03-24-2004 02:21 AM

Re: 1967 RS question

I know I am going nuts just waiting for him to say he needs the money and will get me a title later. At this point he wants to wait for the title, the previous owner is in jail and the current owner is just waiting for him or someone to get it to him. I don't want to get it without a title and find out later that its stolen or some mess up with the title and I am out my money. I have seen things like that happen to good people thinking they got a good deal, another friend got a '67 Shelby GT350 and they said we will get you a title only to find out it was stolen and he was out his $3000 and still no title. Just trying to avoid a nightmare over a car.

Jeff H 03-24-2004 06:21 AM

Re: 1967 RS question

That's what it comes down to. It's hard to give a deposit when he doesn't have the title to complete the deal. But you may still want to give him a deposit with a check and get something in writing that says he will sell you the car for $2000 when he gets the title.

Re: 1967 RS question

Bad news https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif He came in tonight and said thanks so much for my help but he has decided to keep the car and restore it himself. I wanted to cry https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif He was really nice about it and said sorry he knew I had my heart set on it but he really would like to do it himself. Sometimes that happens, happened with my almost first muscle car, a '66 Impala SS. Guess I get to keep looking for the right restorable car.

Thanks to everyone here who helped me decipher the cowl plate, you are all a great bunch and I'll stick around https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

JD,
That's too bad about the car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif Just keep looking there a lot of cars out there just waiting to be picked up. Be patient and find yourself a nice one to restore. Also never say never, the guy just might change his mind and if knows he has a serious buyer waiting you just might end up with it.

Good Luck
