NEW ARRIVAL-69 NOVA L-78 4 speed with 7,000 miles

1 Attachment(s)
Harvest Gold 1969 SS-396 NOVA= 375 hp. four speed with only 7,000 mi on it. This is a real time capsule.

Owner died in '75, after pulling the motor out to hop up. Sat in storage ever since. Harvest Gold - rubber mats - no options. Has a few minor dings from something that can be fixed easy.

The seat and arm rests look like they have never been sat on. I have the build sheet showing L-78 and M-20 with the 0 having a line through it? Anybody know what that means. I take it to mean just 0 but the tranny is the correct one with the numbers still on it and it has a single ring around the input shaft. I thought the single ring was a close ratio and the double was a wide ratio? Of course I am getting old and have been too sleepy to look it up yet.

All glass shows the correct code for a 3-69 car and are good except for the WS.

Floors and door jams are stil not rusted out. Doors close easier than my Lexus does. This car is a real nice example of how they came from the factory. Floors are not rusted out and in fact only have a very few holes in them. drain plugs and mats were removed to keep it from rusting out. Still has the over spray on the tunnel where the shifter comes out.

It has some rust at the bottom of the front fenders about the size of a silver dollar. the rear wheel openings are gone though. The trunk still has its spackle paint though.

Here are a few pics to get the juces flowing and tomorrow afternoon I will post some more.

Larry is secretive about the location where he got the car and I don't blame him. The Dealer was in Indiana. Larry was at my house on Wed night. He snuck back Thurs afternoon to the dealership to show me the car and it is cool. Needs some TLC but he will fix er up im sure. Cool thing was there was still the original orange overspray on the intake manifold from 1969! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Glad to meet you and your Friend Larry! I hope to see you at the Reunion in Sept! Mr. Clary you need to work on him to bring that Motion Vette for us to see! I think I laid the ground work but I need some help! I told him not to fix her up at all just show us the car in it's original state. I for one see to many restored cars. It would be neat to see a supercar in it's raw original form. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Congratulations Larry. This sounds like a very nice car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif
Just a few questions:
*Shouldn't code 65 be Olympic Gold?
*Were you able to get the entire Smog System that came with this engine originaly?
*Relating to Marlins Dash Thread, what is yours plated like?
*What is the Rearend Ratio it was built with?
*Did it Come with YA SS wheels & redline Tires?
What an Awesome car,and when are you coming through the Chicago area again! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: NEW ARRIVAL-69 NOVA L-78 4 speed with 7,000 mi

You are right on the color I havn't learned them yet. Remember I am more a Vette guy.

I am still punchy from the fast trip with a 15 gal gas tank Pickup. (ugh) Man I think we must have stopped at every other gas station on the way back to OKLA.

I doubt that I will be back up in the Chicago area for a while. I have way too much work to get started on with these cars.

I plan to build on a "Charlie Lillard" size building on the back of my home to house my collection. It makes me nervious to have this many valuable cars and not be where they are stored. Not to mention that I can't work on them neary as offten as I want to when they are across town.

Ed - 55 chev is comming over today and I will be doing a inventory of just what I have and don't have. I know the gas tank is gone. I got a extra trunk and new in the box bumper with it. I know the carb is not the correct one. Clutch and flywheel were not there either. There are 4 wheels so the spare is missing. The grill is not perfect and for some reason the headlight bezzels are not the same. One is chrome and the other is painted? Go figgure.

I do have the original motor, 4 speed with shifter, and they all have the proper S/N and part numbers still on them. I was realy lucky to have found the Broadcast sheet for this car that shows the L-78. It was a 3:36 posi rearend.

I will post some more pic of it for the enjoyment of those that are interested.

Ed (AKA 55chev) just left. I am sure he will have a thouht on this car to share. Thanks Ed...! Love that new car too.

We took out everything and sorted the little parts and took pic and wound up with these strange parts that we could not ID.

So here is a pic of them.

One is a ashtray but not for this car...
the other is two flat metal washers W/bend in them marked
"SI 3000-21"
2 strange alum panels with two screw holes each??
One flex hose flat looking and not very long
some kind of cork for a bottle? No brand name and we decided to forego the pic of the butt in the ashtray that has been there for quite a long time.

All the tires on this car are belted and not radials.

Re: NEW ARRIVAL-69 NOVA L-78 4 speed with 7,000 mi

Ed and I had a few questions about some of the parts.

The wheels are not all the same One is different (no Spare)=

T10 5 CL - on the (LR&LF&RR)
K19 1 23 XT - (RF)

Carb is the wrong one # 4781 263 W/180 size butterflys

Dist is 1111499

Smog filters (2)?? - 3287099 (Fisher corp 3/4") hose fittings.

head light bezel's are mismatched.

3914780 RH seems to be the original

39496003 LH is black and not the same as the other.

which one is the wrong one? I felt the RH one was the original bezell.

Thanks Ed for all your help.

More pic to come as time allows

Larry, those two aluminum pieces hold down the rubber mat, or carpet in the backseat area. They go below the rear window side panels. Schonye

I didn't know that chev wielded on the blocks till I saw this one. Just a small place and it would only make the head gasket seal a little better.

BTY this is the numbers matching block.

Last pic today... Side shot. (this is the way I got it)

Some one in the past sprayed black paint on it to try to stop the surface rust. Sure makes it look like hell.

The Rear wheel wells are totally gone both sides. Only major rust in the whole car except for the spot on the trunks R lower corner and under the taillights.

I really hate to have to change the entire quarter panel. Thinking about scabing in a repair just big enought to eliminate the rusted out area's.

Please share your thoughts on this with me. I would like to just repair the problems and repaint this car and keep it as close to a "surivor" as I can. There are just not very many cars like this around anymore and it would be a shame to over restore it. I am sure that there are those of you, that would like to see what one looks like from the factory and that has not been messed with any more than necessary.

Please feel free to voice your opinion on this subject.

Thanks guys for your interest and stay tuned for more to come...

Pantera;

I am glad you went for the car.

Bezel 3949603 is for a 68 and was removed from service parts in 11-68. Probably since it was superseeded by the new version used in 69. 3949604 was the RH side. I would like to get a picture of 3914780 and a double check of the part number since I can not find it anywhere.

Thanks,
Greg
