bbbennys COPO

Benny has been looking for his original BE rear for years. He contacted the previous owners and they contacted people who new people who might have some info. Always a wild goose chase!! Then at last some real info surfaced. A guy with a 1969 326 firebird had it in his car with 488's from the original owners drag racing days. Yes Bennys car was Day 2 in less than a few minutes from the showroom! After a long (18mths) negotiation with the Dr. that owned the firebird he became the new owner of the rear. Finally!!! Don't ask what he had to give for it. I bet it was way,way more that the Firebird was ever worth. When ever you really want something you have to pay. The gentlemen that owned the car knew this so the price was high, even though the man never cared about his car. The neat part of this whole long story is that when he brought the rear back from Ohio and started to take it apart he realized that his 9000 mile car with its 9000 mile rear had the ORIGINAL brake shoes still attached! That was a great find. He cleaned the rear and restored the shoes for a quality job. You just never know what is out there. ALL leads must be followed. Way to go BBBBenny and the Jets! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: bbbennys COPO

I told Benny that everybody has seen his car in its factory original condition. I am trying to convince him that taking it to Day-2 would be fun and interesting. The car was in drag racing form very early in its life. A set of headers, slapper bars, fiberglass flex fan, vintage drag slicks, Cragars or Ansens with the skinnies up front, and a steering column tach would do it! Come on Benny, it is the nature of your BEAST! What do you guys think??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: bbbennys COPO

Frank, You have NO problems. All the parts are basically bolt ons. Only real expense is the headers and exhaust. I would take your whole exhaust off and replace it with headers and a less expensive exhaust system. Then everything would stay intact. Manifolds, smog and complete system. Just store it away. I have everything for my Z/28 in the attic. Fortunately the original and second owner of Bennys car put everything in the corner for 35 years. That is a story in itself. Just think how bad you will beat Marlin with a few mods to your deuce! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Whoops, I may be in trouble now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

I don't know Benny looks like your car was lovin it in a couple of those early attachments Rob posted. I would love to see those flat tow bar hitches sticking out of your front end again! Car looked happier in the old days. Didn't have to sit in the trailer so long before. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Those old pics are cool. That's one of those that if you found today would be a tossup as to put it back to factory, or leave it as a stripper.

Platforms and a leopard-skin tank top? Is that a Pabst Blue Ribbon can sitting on that Chinette paper plate? I wonder what was parked outside.

Yo, I'm not bustin' nobody's b*lls or nothin', I'm just sayin' that looks like Pabst Blue Ribbon on a Chinette plate. So was there a '76 Trans Am with T-tops parked outside? He must have stopped by to get back his Frankie Valli 8-track.

The beer in Frank's pic is indeed Stroh's... also my dad's beer of choice when I was growing up...btw Mr70, The beer in the goofy ad above is Schlitz....had a similar label, but was/is terrible beer. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

"When you're out of Schlitz....
....you're out of beer!"

That was their jingle, and it was true - because we would drink all the other beer first.
Let's hear it for a suitcase of Hamm's!

Re: bbbennys COPO

Pabst bought out Stroh brewery in 1998.
Pabst now has the rights to Schlitz,Colt 45 malt liquor,Old Milwaukee,Old Style,& Strohs',among others.
Our Distributor says he can't find it,but I'll bet somebody has an Unopened one sitting on their shelf somewhere for you.I'll bet it tastes the same today,as it did 35 years ago!
