Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Charley, is the 68 L89 listed the bogus one from last year?

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
I do believe that 70 Nova L89 is a clone too

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
It seems like BJ now has a reputation for helping sell clones for big money.

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Correct me if im wrong , but is'nt it a common practice for "questionable" car's to be sold at auction?. Is it becouse you don't have as much time to authenticate the car, or maybe your hoping to pass the your ride off to the clueless?. Once you buy a car from the auction weather it's real or not, your stuck with it and you have no recourse to get your money back. What about liens on the cars?, do'es the auction pay for any liens that pop up?. Just curious how it works in the states

Are you looking for a "matching numbers" hot dog and coke?
I think that there may be 2 or 3 at this January's auction... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Seriously, it'll be cool to finally meet you! We'll definitely have to do the Pavillions Cruise, and hopefully my brother will be in town, so we can take the Camaro out for a spin. Either way, I'll take you to go "check it out"! I should be getting final space information sometime this week. We asked for space inside the main tent (where the actual auction is held) but it's on a first come, first served basis. Since our company has exhibited there in the past, we have a good chance of getting a great vendor space! No matter what...we'll be there! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif I'll keep you updated. Also, check out the vintage photo of some "kid" around '81, who was helping a bunch during the initial engine pull for detailing purposes... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
The only way to justify the prices paid for some of these clones is if the bidder didn't know it was a clone. BJ may be counting on owners being too embarrased by their mistake to make a huge issue of it. I hope this isn't the case. I would hope someone who were ripped off would take advantage of sites like this and make public their side of the story. Bad publicity would make BJ sit up and take notice quickly.

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Ya but what recourse does a buyer have if he is duped by some jerkweed at one of these auction. Really what is the auction house going to do, it's buyer beware. So when someone gets "stuck" with one of these cars he just moves it to the next auction. It seems that BJ is where they all end up from the past years build up becouse thats their best chance on getting their money back. I would think that if this starts getting carried away and people start getting to know BJ is like that, they would do something about it. Also if a guy was too embaressed about what happened i don't think he wants to come here and tell his story so his car will be branded, but who knows, depends on the person i guess. Sure would like to know who thes conmen are so they can be branded.

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
If I remember my stories correctly, there was an issue with a Motion car in the last year sold through BJ. They had marketed it as a true Motion car. After it was sold at auction the veracity of it being a true Motion came into question. If I have my story straight they ended up buying back the car from the fellow who bought it at auction.
I think for their reputation alone, if they advertise a car as a true car they will stand behind it. Does anyone one recall the details of this transaction? |
Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
The bidding of some of these cars is crazy. I was just talking to my friend Jerry Ketchum and he said on year this guy was bidding an incredible amount for this T bird and Jerry leaned over politely and said why so much, he said I just met this lady and she likes the color!!! More money than brains sometimes.

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Canucklehead,
--------While I can see where someone who hasnt been to B/J would have the opinions you do about the auction, most of what you say just isnt true. For starters; B/J isnt any dumping ground. Getting a number there is a really difficult proposition. You just about have to start right after the auction the year before. Its very difficult to just "take it to the next auction" when the next auction is B/J. --------Yes, there are impulse buyers there. My thought on that is that those guys who seem to be paying too much feel they can bring it back to B/J to recoupe all or most of thier money another year. Weather they do or not I cant tell you. As well, because of all the auction action in and around Scottsdale in January I think that collector cars seem to have a somewhat elevated value year around in that general vicinity. --------The vast majority of buyers that are sticking thier hands up are knowledgeable about the cars they are bidding on. The smart ones who arent knowledgeable about a particular car either find or have with them guys who know what they are looking at. --------Although it doesnt always happen, I have heard of several instances where fraudulantly presented cars had thier deals reversed or where the new owners were compensated in some way enough that they were satisfied with thier purchase. --------For those buyers wanting to come to Scottsdale and get a smokin deal and leave with a car they can immediatly sell for a profit, you better do your home work because it isnt easy. Not impossible, just difficult. Not trying to start an arguement just stating my thoughts on your statements..........Bill S |

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Olred said it perfect. Funny thing is most of the cars bought are dealers who have NO inventory, and some true collectors. They will be back again stocking up inventory !!
Pay high today seems cheap tomm !! One guy told me awhile back: You can pay me a million today or you can pay me a million tomorrow. I hope he reads this on the site, and I will never forget it. It sold for a million and climbing still today... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |
Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Does anyone have information about the black copo (Lot Number 734) up for auction?

Re: Barrett Jackson Auction
Yes it is true that i've never been to BJ, but i have been to several auctions here in Canada. Some are better then others. The ones i've been to have been buyer beware, now maybe BJ is different i'll find out when i get there. It sounds to me that BJ does what they can to weed out the shams, but i would also like to know what to expect once i get there. Im glad to here that they are an auction house that has some ethics.
