Hi guys anyone remember this car? [/ QUOTE ] no, but thats one of the coolest pics posted on here in a long time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif When was the pic taken? Is it a real Yenko car, and does it exist today? |

Yes, I have the car.
Yes, Chad it's the same car that you hauled around in your trailer. Thanks Joe I just got some pictures this week from the original owner. Here's another one. He said he was practicing burn outs in his driveway and the neighbor called the cops. He was just takin this picture as "Company" was pulling up the driveway. (Circa 1971) |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Well then keep the pictures coming Jim. Cool car. I'll throw that question out there again.. Is it a real Yenko?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Yes, it's real
Joe, it's from your neck of the woods. Sully |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
'Bout time you post them!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Nice stripe and emblem delete car!

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Sully, do tell more! Is this a Canonsburg sold Yenko? I'm perplexed by the lack of Yenko and 427 badging, as well as the lack of hood striping. I notice the quarter stripes are missing the Yenko text as well. Was the "Yenko/SC" painted over or could these stripes have been joined this way since new, eliminating the Yenko/SC wording? Perhaps it was a walk-in Canonsburg customer's request. That would explain the lack of hood striping and badging as well, if the customer simply didn't want the Yenko name all over his new car. I know I'm speculating quite a bit, but until you clue us in here Sully it's all we can do. Fill us in, awesome looking car, any current pics of it?

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Not "The Gambler" if it was from PA, hmmmm......

Yes, it's a Cononsburg car.
Owner knew Don and wanted it that way. When I talked to him originally he said he didn't have the hood stripes installed when he bought it. I didn't realize he didn't have any of the badging either. He also said he had Don use a blank tape stripe without the script. Anyway when I bought it it had Z stipes on it and had the 427 hood emblems on. The car was badly damaged in 72? and had been repaired and repainted. Marlin I believe you know the car. Sully . |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Did someone whack a pole with it one time?
|
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Yep.
|
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Wow...I've heard of cars that didnt get stripes or badges, but I never heard of a yenko car that was striped, but with Don's name deleted from the stripe... I bet Don hated giving in to THAT request! VERY COOL... tell us more.

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Where, and in what class, did that thing run? How long has it had the lettering on the side? And most importantly, how does it run NOW??!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
Wierd combo...I LOVE IT! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Yea, I know about that car!! Very cool pics, love the stripe story - those cars sold out of Yenko, never two the same!
|
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Wow, that car looks odd without the wording and emblems. Awesome original pictures though.

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Was That Camaro featured in a magazine years ago?
I think I saw it featured publically somewhere, but can't recall where? Love that Barney Fife backdrop picture! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Check out the Chevy Caprice or Impala in the background sure looks like a 1973 front end to me.back ground is a little blurry so I could be wrong. Awesome pics and car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Never in a magazine that I know.
Was a late car 08E. I think that was maybe the reason Don granted the request. The original owner worked at a local Hotel and got to know Don. The car was raced at PID. Don't know what class. I don't know how long he had it lettered up. I am thinkin at least a couple years. He has a picture (somewhere) that shows it coming off the line at PID. He sold the car in I believe late 72 and the kid he sold it to smashed it up on Thanksgiving day. I talked with him and he said it was the worst day of his life. Put the car away for the winter and pulled the insurance. Girlfriend talked him into takin it out and lost it. Sold it to John Kunsak who planed on racing it but just repaired it and sold it. Vince found the car and bought it in the late eighties. I bought it from a guy he sold it to. Original motor car. I have some more pics but I will have to downsize them when I get a chance. Later...Sully |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Jim,glad to see the pics from the old days, especially the one with the cop pulling up the driveway, how cool is that! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Just noticed that it looks like a 970 SW tach on the cowl panel. Wonder if that was installed that way by Yenko in lieu of a real "hood tach?" Any ideas Jim?

Re: Anyone remember this car?
I'll bet it worked for about 2 days mounted outside the car like that... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Hi Everyone,
I am the original owner of the Humble Hugger. As Sully (the current owner) posted a while back, I had the stripes made without the SYC. Don Yenko had them made for me that way before we had computers to cutout that striping material. I did not want the stripes on the hood, trunk or seats - so Don did not put them on. I was at the dealership when the car came in on the trailer. The tach on the cowl was put there because the "stock" tach was off 300 - 500 RPM at 6K. We found that on the dyno. The car was NEVER in the rain when I owned it so no problem with exposure. I told Sully I would try and find the pic a photographer took of the car coming off the line at PID. As soon as I find it I will post it. Sully has a bunch of photos I sent him of the car from 1970 - 1974. Maybe he will post them all. Any Questions? |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Wow...original owner, how cool.Welcome Jon..can you post some early pics or does Sully have them all ? What kind of numbers did the dyno show you ??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Welcome Jon. Is that a HEMI Dart you're getting the jump on? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
VERY COOL!!! Post some pics and tell us what made you decide to go with the Yenko Camaro back then! (besides the obvious!)Did you choose the color? Did you see it before conversion? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Anyone remember this car?
Welcome Jon,
Great to hear from the original owner. Maybe we should try and convince Jim to put the striping back to original and lose the emblems. That would set it apart from the others. Just goes to show, never doubt how these cars could be delivered. I have seen the original photos and they are very interesting. Hang around with us Jon. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Hey Supercar,
--------Are you sure that "tach" isnt a fuel pressure guage? The line of the bottom almost looks like Aeroquip and that is a favorite place to hang a FPG. I had one there on "Red Alert"..........Bill S |

I had one there on "Red Alert"..........Bill S [/ QUOTE ] Bill that's definitely a Stewart Warner 970 series pedistal mount tach. It's the same tach Yenko installed on the center guage cluster, above the steering column on the early '69 Yenko cars that weren't equipped with a factory in-dash tach. In this case, the factory tach was off and noticed on the dyno, so it got the SW per customer request. I'm assuming it was placed on the cowl for visibilty and that was probably a customer request too. Can you shed any light on this Jon, did you or Yenko decide where to put it? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
BillS
The wires may have been wrapped in that chrome plastic wrap that was so so common back then. |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
WOW super cool pics!
|
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Here are some original pics I got
from Jon. Hey Jon, glad you chimed in. I also thought the car in the drag shot looked like a Hemi Dart. I asked Jon but he hasn't responded. Doesn't matter I tell everyone its a Hemi Dart. Sully |
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Wheel wells and hood say Hemi Dart
|
Re: Anyone remember this car?
Thats the foot of the tach pedestal youre seeing, not any sort of fuel lines or chrome wrapped wires. Its turned at a 90 degree angle, perpendicular to the tach. The wires come directly out the bottom of the pedestal on a SW tach, and would likely be routed under the cowl panel from what i can see in the pic. -JB
