Yenko Backyard
I wanted to post this picture again, since so many members liked it the last time I shared it on 1/1/04. There are alot more members now, so I thought I would share it with them, and whoever hasn't seen it yet. Still my favorite! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Yenko Backyard
Yeah, this s one of those photos that needs to be posted every now and then. What a scene. Let's see, I'll take a red one, a blue one, and a black one. Oh, and just for fun Mr. Yenko, drop a crate ZL-1 in the red one. May I write a check?

Hey camarojoe.......I will also take the ORIGINAL copy of that photo that you have in your SUPER memorabilia collection!!!!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Another reason to attend SCR8!!!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: Yenko Backyard
Hey Joe, don't you have a couple other views of that back lot too? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
|
Re: Yenko Backyard
Yeah, speaking of the original copy, are the colors any different, or better, on the original? Looks like they're a *tad* off on the version above...and am I correct in saying that just on the other side of the cars in the picture is a creek? What's that on the hillside in the background?
|
Re: Yenko Backyard
Yeah, I'd say the colors are off enought that the Fathom Green cars appear Black and the Hugger Orange cars do look a bit red. I still can't understand why no Black 69 Yenko Camaros. That would be a sweet combo. In fact there are a number of colors that come to mind that would have been hot. On ebay not long ago there was a nice looking tribute car that was Cortez Silver/black top/ black stripes. Really looked good...BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Yenko Backyard
Brian that is a good point on certain colors not being used. Is there anything on that in the estate documents? I am suprised that Don did not use colors like Black or Red on the 69 Camaros. Actually Black was not used on ANY sYc cars in all years and models right? It had to have been popular back then.

Re: Yenko Backyard
I thought the 67 Yenko that Price owned was black. Unless I'm mixing up cars again(which I'm starting to do way too often!) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: Yenko Backyard
Yes, i have a couple other views of that same lot... I think the colors are a bit better on the original photos, but still not really true, the fact they are 35+ year old pics probably doesn't help the color any either. There were also some non supercars in the same lot, a station wagon, step van, and an el camino if i recall correctly. Pretty cool that even back then Don thought it was a neat enough "sight" to take some photographs of. Probably the most Yenkos lined up together at one time ever... at least until SCR8.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Yenko Backyard
So, the way to determine a true Yenko is by checking the radiation level... the higher the level the more original the car is.

Re: Yenko Backyard

Re: Yenko Backyard
Joe are any SS or Z/28s visible in the photos? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
|
Re: Yenko Backyard
I see at least 2 factory vinyl top cars among the Camaros...wasn't someone asking about that in another thread?

Re: Yenko Backyard
Pure Heaven!!!!
That's what i hope it looks like as i pass the pearley gates! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: Yenko Backyard
Darren, its hard to see every car clearly, but it appears the cars were all either "hero or zero"... in other words, it looks like COPO cars and plain janer malibus, trucks, and 4 doors. I don't see any Camaros in the pics that look to be anything other than COPO 9737 cars...not that there's anything wrong with that... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: Yenko Backyard
The Hugger Orange X-11 car looks like a good match to mine. By the looks of the trees it could fall into that time frame. Trying to get a count of the X-11 cars produced and it is tough going. Just found my first O2D X-11 Yenko, most of the X-11 cars have been O3B builds. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Yenko Backyard
Any idea what the volume of the standard HP cars were? Wondering since Yenko's niche was COPOS if that had any effect on his volume for Z's and SS cars. Just curious cause with all the Yenko lot pictures I have seen you never see any of those in the background. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
|
Re: Yenko Backyard
To be honest, i'm not really sure exactly how many Z/28s, SS, etc cars they sold during the musclecar heyday... i do know of several non COPO musclecars sold through yenko during that timeframe, including a few Z's, but as for actul numbers I don't know. I believe they actually sold alot more non COPO camaros directly through the Canonsburg dealership than 427 cars, as most of the supercars were shipped out to the network dealers across the US.

Re: Yenko Backyard
From the mid-60's through the early 70's Yenko Chevrolet was advertised as "Washington County's Largest Volume Corvette Dealer" and there are still a few Yenko sold mid-70's 'Vettes in the Pittsburgh area. It seems Yenko sold lots of base model pickups and utilty type vehicles as well, as the local blue collar Pittsburgh area demographic created a strong demand for these. CamaroJoe's got a letter from GM thanking Yenko Chevrolet for their continued success in moving large volumes of Chevrolet trucks lying around somewhere.

Re: Yenko Backyard
