'70 Berger Nova?
Friend just showed up in my office with a picture of a '70 427 Nova SS. Has emblems and decals from Berger. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gifDocumentation shows it was sold out of Berger. Was this an SS 350 with a later change or is it possble it left Berger with a 427? 81k miles. Jim https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

This was discussed a week or so ago. Very doubtful that Berger swapped the motor. In 1970 the 454 was out, and much more likely to be the motor of choice for a transplant. Just my opinion. Sounds like a neat car. Andy |

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
the block to that car is a 454 with winters intake late october build date and muncie trans. thi car was not on ebay last week all the signs point that this car could be a real transplant by berger. bbgg in yellow on fire wall

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
it was a 350 ss car radio clock delete 4 spd berger decal on fan shroun trunk deck and inside trunk to my knowlidge the car could very well be real large fuel line and prportioning valve under seat
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
what kind of docs did you see????
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Did Nova's receive proportioning valves on the frames?
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
My '69 Yenko did not have one, nor a friends '69 L-78.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
That's what I was thinking, neither of my Nova's had one, and both are/were original when I bought them. I think BKH told me this past weekend that the Novas never got them?
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
My early-70 has a distribution block on the sub frame. Partway through the production year, GM made a change and consoliated them up under the master cyclinder.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
bbbenny's 69 L78 does not have one. Brake lines and set up is original.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
That's what I thought, the changeover was in early/mid '70 production. Then, we started looking at the '69 Novas a little harder, and can't seem to find any with the block on the rail. Could it be a design limited only to early '70 production?
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
My 70 L78 has it tucked under the master, and my untouched 69 L78 has it on the frame rail. SULLY

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
What are the dates of your cars? Maybe we can nail down the start/stop weeks of when the Novas had the duhicky on the rail.
My '69 is an 02A build. My '70 is an 05D build. What's your build date Alan, I know you have an early car. The NNN giveaway car was a very early '70, dated 10A, and did not have the duhicky on the rail. |
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Marlin,
I'm pretty sure the NNN giveaway car DID have that junction block on the subframe. Mine has 09E on the cowl tag. Most of them that I've seen built from 08B through the calendar year 1969 with disk brakes had that block. |
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Hmmmm.... Ok, that would make sense then, so this block is unique to the early '70 Novas only?
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Possibly 69's with disk brakes also, since JRSully's '69 has one.
I believe in the NNN articles, it talks about that block and even how it is date coded. |
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Yea, that's true. Mine and Benny's '69's don't have it, so I'm curious as to the build date of Sully's '69.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Neither of our '69s with disks had it...
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
I'll check my 69 L78 to verify this weekend and will report back. Thanks

Is this what you are talking about? Mine is march '69 L-78.

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Nope.... look on the outside of the sub-frame under the driver's door to see if there is a brake junction block mounted there.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
My 68 RS has it under the drivers door on the rail;
Heres a link to the CRG info Topic on it and a diagram on location http://www.camaros.org/TopicsofResea...ResearchTopics |
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
the man said on the phone this car has that valve he also said it has yellow marking on the firewall that he thinks say gg bb

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Marlin,
I researched this the year before last with several of the folks who responded here already. The conclusion was to compare cars to the following hypothesis: Disc Brake valve is: 1 - near the master cylinder in 1969. 2 - on the frame rail on 1969 built 1970 Model Novas. 3 - back at the master cylinder for 1970 built 1970 Model Novas. If anyone has a Nova that does not follow this please contact me (JRSully send me an email with a picture if you can) so that I can focus on that time frame. Thanks, Greg |

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Greg, did you check that on my cars??
tom |
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Build date on Benny's is O6A.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
I was incorrect, I checked my 69 L78 car car today, it has the brake valve (looks like a solid shot glass) UNDER THE MASTER, not under the frame rail as originally thought, my build date is 04C, sorry for the misinformation. SULLY

Re: '70 Berger Nova?
Tom,
I did (except the black 4 speed) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif They all have the valve under the MC. Greg |
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
My 70 SS with disc brakes has the valve on the frame under the door. Car was built first week of September, 1969.
|
Re: '70 Berger Nova?
That makes sense, it's in the proper window for that location.

Re: '70 Berger Nova - it's back!
