This is a free market and they will bring whatever price the market allows, but for now look like there is no end in sight! Personally I would rather have Charley's El Mule, it would be a lot more fun! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
I'll sell it to you for less than 1.25 mil...

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Is anyone familiar with the Central Office Sticker in the windshield?
|
Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Charley, that car is awesome, it would have to be a lot more fun to drive than a stock ZL-1, not taking anything away from a ZL-1 as I appreciate what they are, but the Mule is the meanest looking car I have ever seen. I was at Detroit Speed and Engineeings open house Friday night and I am going to build a Camaro with the DSE suspension and mini-tubs, those 335's on a 67-69 Camaro are awesome! Charley the Mule is awesome, I wouldn't sell it if I were you! How much power does the Mule have now? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
I thought #40 sold at the auction a couple weeks ago for a little over $800,000.

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
That was #18 that sold at Mecum St.Charles for $840 total w/fees.

Rick, Do you know anything about that sticker on the windshield?

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Mule makes 1021 hp at 16 lbs boost on 100 octane.

Sticker? Did Mattison have one on his demo?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
WOW! Thats some serious numbers Charley, bet you have hurt a lot peoples feelings with that. The 67 RS/Z mentioned in the ZL-1's ad just came back from paint on Thursday, talked to Stan Younts at DSE's open house friday night, he said this car has tons documentation and retains lots of its original parts, like exhaust, tires, and some other stuff, can't remember what else. Charley the combo in the pro-touring car I am going to build is the new LS-7 with a F1 pro-charger, it will make good power, but nothing like the Mule! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Since I am not a buyer, I won't bother Jim, but does anyone know if this car has its original engine, or trans, or rear end? I couldn't find that info in the description.

Jim with his #40 was in Nashville on Oct 22/23..........

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Is it just me or is there something about that guy's style that makes me extremely suspicious? Plus he mentioned Yenko.net by name. Poor form. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
He spends way too much time on slimey wording.
Like... "I think you get my drift here.", "If you are a serious party, I could show anyone what i'm talking about", "Real cars have real parts on them", "original head bolts and timing cover bolts", etc, etc... |

Lynn [/ QUOTE ] Way back when I found Yenko N579434 in a junkyard. I bought the dash and BE for $75 [those were the days..]. I eventually sold the axle to Lewis Swan when he owned #40. So the axle is technically correct, just not original to the car. Nowhere in the ad does he claim the drivetrain is OE. |
Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
And you wonder why Jim mentions this website on the auction the way he did!
Jeez. Rick H |

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
If i was to buy this car. I would want to know all the info available about it, so i could make an informed decision. Just as anyone would buying a house or anything else. William is just giving knowledgable info that a buyer spending that kind of money should know. Roger

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
I wish I could have been there when these cars roamed the streets. Looks plain jane till you pull up next to it. No wonder not many have the original drivetrain, they were always provoked to race someone - you know it. Plain Jane camaros on roids. Nice car.

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Lets face it, the Vin makes these cars valuable. You may get more dough for the quality of restoration, but these cars are all about the magic 69 built.
Yu could put a small block in it and probably sell it for 500K!!! |
Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
I agree, Stuey...there's no reason these cars shouldn't be closer to Hemi 'Vert prices...

I find that trivial, but that's me. If the car sells I would love to see the new owner ask him to tear down the car to verify originality. Rick H. |

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
These cars are about the mystique of only 69 built, that is very special in my mind. Think about it, as far as camaros, these cars have there own set of rules and values.
The correct hose clamp date means a pile of poop for these cars, its about the VIN. Cool car, hope he sells it for 1.25 mil. |

It is probably difficult for those new to the hobby to believe but as recently as 20 years ago these cars were no big deal. Having already admitted to leaving a relatively intact Olympic gold Yenko in a junkyard here's another flashback for you. Circa '82-'83 a friend calls. There is a '69 Camaro parked outside Peach's Auto Service on Milwaukees' south side. It is on a battery charger so the hood is up. The car is a beater, nothing special but has a bb heater box. This gets his attention as there are no SS emblems on it so he copies the VIN: 124379N613633. It was some college kid's beater that probably could have been had for a song. Like I said, at that time they were no big deal. |

Cool deal William...thanks for the memories. I barely remember these cars...as I was more into the 69 Trans Am's....Z/28's, etc.
I also agree with Stuart...they are totally cool! I hope that he gets what he's asking for also! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

For many years after the factory built them very few people even knew they existed!

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
I would like to reply this topic:
A Vette is a Vette, whether it commands 1.00 to 1,000,000.00+.... After being into Chevy cars for many years, 26 years now, one thing stands out more than anything else in my decisions to stay with the steel body 69 Camaros: Vettes were pampered versions of what a Camaro did for the public image for Chevrolet! Every Camaro ( OK , Chevelles,Novas,etc-gotta keep all of you happy) stood the test of time thru actual useage and visibilty! It still stands for Horsepower and sheer functionality that proved GM's superiority in a time when Ford & Chrysler were buliding powerplants beyond a chassis' ability. Hemis, SOHC's DOHC's, Yunick SBC Hemi's still to me play equal game to an all aluminum version of a standard BBC version, in the namee of cubic inches vs. sense. To me, quite frankly, GM did simply only convert a basic BBC engine into a Mammoth display of enginuity without spending heaps of time and R&D and money to deliver what still is today.... what most all others then were only trying to perfect! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Rick, Do you know anything about that sticker on the windshield? [/ QUOTE ] These stickers came out in 1967 as part of the Division-Wide "Number One Team" quality & spirit program. They were available to Chevy employees to put on their bumpers or wherever they wanted. The #1 team program was initially begun in manufacturing, and the logo designed by Jam Handy,(the 35MM Communication kit movie maker),but it was spread all over Chevrolet. I have many different ones in my personal collection: *Engineering Center-(actually "Eng'ring Center") *Sales Leader-(from the Central Office Sales Dept.) *Willow Run *Central Office *Tonawanda Motor http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...lcopo10002.jpg |
Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
I asked the question of the seller and he replied he didn't know what it was..... a friend had gotten it at a flea market and he put it on because it was "cool". I think they're pretty neat especially that Tonawanda one. I'm gonna keep my eye out for these as I think they would look "cool" on a car also. Damn, Rick you're good... I wouldn't want to play "Stump the Band" if you were in the band. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: ZL-1 #40 on Ebay - 1.25M
Mr Corvette (Zora) had a lot of influnce on all the GM cars in a round about way. If it fit a vette then if you know the right person you could wind up with it on a Camaro/Chevelle/Nova/Impalla.
We all should be gratefull to him. He is the one that made the small block run like it did and that wound up in all the car lines. Not to mention he was a true Car guy. Pantera |
