James Garner's AIR built other race cars as well.

Who knows what else they built?

Very cool pictures; do you suppose that these cars could have been the inspiration for the Phase III GT's paint scheme? I definately see a similarity.

I'd say that's very possible.

That is pretty cool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif...thanks for posting. I knew he had some racing but never knew it was to that extent.

Wonder why Jimmy Rockford drove a Firebird instead of Vette or Camaro with that type of background?

I think Fred is asking another cool question (that he has the answer to)!

I'll take a wild guess and say the Mustang that was used in Bullitt.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

------Dont know about the rest of you but I would like to track down Bob Wingates 68 L89 Vette pictured here. That looks like a bad ride and I love the color and stripes (appears to be white and lemans blue). Since Wingates 67 that Radke owns today (I think) had so many specially done features one can only wonder what was done to the 68. I can see what appear to be Americans and Goodyears!!!...........Bill S

In 69 AIR campaigned a couple of Lola T70's,for Daytona and Sebring, and also a Surtees TS5 in the Formula 5000 series. They ran AMC scramblers in the Baja as well, but AMC pulled thier sponsoprship and the team dissolved at the end of the year.I went to a function at the Peterson museum a couple of years ago and they showed Garners racing documentary that chronicled that 69 season-all the team drivers were there including Garner, and I think Roone Arledge who produced the movie. Some great stories from that event for sure https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Wingate (Clippinger Chevrolet) Corvettes were all ordered with lots of luxury options. I had a '68 L89 that I got from Charley and like all the Bob Wingate cars, it had lots of options for a high performance car. When I researched to Zone/Dealer number someone told me that my car should have nice options and it did. His clients were generally wealthy folks and he ordered high horse engines and luxury options like PS, PB and power windows. Generally, the Bob Wingate ordered cars came with highway gears instead of steep 4:11 gears.

Bruce.....good try. Late brake....BINGO on the Baja.

Cool car with a neat story.

Remember I love the weird and wonderful. I'll get out and get some pictures, I used photobucket (that took a while to figure out) for the last ones and they sent me some notices about my limit being reached. The boys at work say we will be able to host pictures in the next couple months.
