ZL-1 aluminum 427
I have a chevy 427 aluminum engine, casting # 3940652, no serial # found, but does have a # 66 stamped on front passenger side down low by oil pan. How many of these were produced and what is the value, thanks

Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
They made about 600 ZL-1 blocks. What kind of condition is it in?

Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
Very good condition, I will have to mic the bore

Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
Where did the 600 number come from?
|
Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
And does anyone know when Yenko first cast his block w/ the 'Yenko' in the casting....before or after GM made the Winters ones available? ~ Pete

Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
I think it was after Pete.Once Don bought the rights to it in the mid 1970's.

Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
I thought it was later too but think I read somewhere once that it was before? . Also last weeks posting of this months ZL1 feature car that has a 'Yenko' one in it sounds like he may have put it in soon after he got it when he set the orig motor aside? ~ Pete

AGAIN....WHERE DID THE 600 COME FROM?
|
Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
Complete and partal engines: 283
Aluminum blocks:279 Yenko orig blocks:30 Yenko revised blocks:900 Info from Winters factory page in Ed Cunneen's book. I hope I am reading it correctly. |
Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
So thar means there were originaly 1,492 aluminum 427 blocks produced in 1969? Just curious
|
Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
I believe all ZL-1 were cast in 69, I dont know about Yenko. These blocks were sold thru 1973. Does your block have a Winters mark on the front, or a Yenko mark?

Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
Hey cool Anders....another style Yenko casting? . The type as in this month's Feature Car w/ YENKO cast into the front (different than Ander's example) is on eBay right now. . I tried a couple times and the link isn't working for some reason? . Clicking on it says not available yet it is still there. . Here's another try at the link....sorry if it doesn't work, can someone else try the link thing? ~ Pete

That first picture is taken of the NOS Yenko-block that my friend Hans has in his X66 Camaro. I hope he will finish the car soon, so that I can take it for a spin.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif The second pic is of an engine that was for sale here in Europe about a year ago. |
Re: ZL-1 aluminum 427
Where can I find some detailed information about Yenko/ZL-1.
I just bought a 68 Camaro with an all aluminum engine in it with Yenko cast into the block. It came with all the original Yenko receipts for the engine when it was bought new in 1978, but I would like to find out some more information if possible. |
