Windows Vista

Just say no. I bought a new desktop with Vista on it and I hate it. Everything I try to do it stops me and asks me for permissions. I can't get into a chat room. The photo download programs are terrible. Arrgh. If you are debating on Vista I say to stay away till they sort this POS out. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

I loved how you can buy a cable and program that transfers all your old files etc from your old computer to the new one with one click... It has been downhill since.
Shouldn't you be writing a book or something ? Get back to work.

I've heard nothing but bad things about it. Wait a year or two until the service pack comes out.

Charley
was reading on DSL reports and it seems that most p/c users
that bought a new p/c with Vista after haveing nothing but problem they end up formateing it and installing Xp and dumping Vista

but you can go to this site to properly load Vista
http://break.com/index/how_to_properly_load_vista.html

Re: Windows Vista

I bought a new computer last week with Vista on it and I'd say stay away from it as well. It is just like any new software, it will have problems for awhile. It isn't that easy to navigate around and I can't find my files half the time. It also shuts down and reboots at will, that is frustrating when it happens in the middle of an email. It shuts down after a Microsoft update, which I don't even know is happening.

Thumbs down for now.

I have that problem with the latest upgrades to XP. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif

The IT guy here at work told me it would be at least two years before we upgrade to Vista. (Lots of compatibility issues.) Our Corporate IT wizards have absolutely nothing good to say about it.

I've read nothing but bad so far about Vista in my tech newsletters...even the Microsoft engineers weren't bragging about it. Sounds like another Windows 2000, to me...

Re: Windows Vista

I recently got a new laptop with Vista Home Premium loaded.... and I'll admit that as delivered, there's some annoying crap already set up... but like any new program, once you spend a little time getting familer with it, it's not so bad... I spent a few hours getting mine set up to my liking and got all the pain in the ass stuff turned off or disabled (all the over the top security crap like the permissions pop ups that Charley was bitching about... you can turn that off Charley https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif).. and now I really like it. But out of the box "as delivered" .. yeah it kinda blows getting used to at first... Guess I can call mine "day 2" now https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif And it works better than my old XP one in my opinion.. I've had mine for about a month now and I like it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

Rick,
oh my God that is too much...
but also I tried to work with Vista on a laptop the other day and the lap top was lucky it didn't end up getting skipped across the lake... it sucked... the apple commercial has it to a tee... Mac is asking if you want to talk... deny or allow... deny or allow if I answered it once I answered it 1000 times for everything... ERRRRRR

Re: Windows Vista

Yes, it is pretty bad. I have some customers that have printers that are less than two years old. They just got a few vista units in (before checking with me) and guess what? HP does not make a driver for vista! You "Get" to buy new "Vista Compatible" printers.....

I anticipate business will be good in the next several months, but customers will not......... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

BTW- I got a call from a customer I last saw two years ago, when I installed his Linux Server. The server took a power hit and crashed. He said that he has only turned the power off/rebooted 5 times in two years! And three of those were for Hurricane Evacuations. The server was dead, and I asked what NOS he wanted on the new one.......
Linux all the way..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: Windows Vista

Anyone use Apple? I've been thinking of switching all our systems here at work to Apple due to all the problems with MS and mostly the anti virus problems. I understand that Apple does not have problems with virus's or trojans. Is this correct? We need Quick books, and use Word and Excel often and I use many imaging and cadd programs for home designing and virtual walk-throughs. Anyone have any input? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Should have been clearer, not ALL hp printers. These were color inkjets, and not too old either.......

Part of the fun.....

Re: Windows Vista

Consider Linux all the way.

There is a distro called Knoppix that's fairly wasy to work with, and red hat is still fairly easy. We find Gentoo to be the most versitile, but very complicated. Suse was just bought by Novell, so it now has support and is "mainstream". Of course, you have to buy it from Novell if you want the support and edirectory.

Just my .02,

R
