Scuncio Chevrolet
I would like to hear from owners of cars I sold new throught Scuncio Chevrolet. Myself and my friend Ed have been looking for any info on cars sold new from Scuncio. We do have some paper work and original owner info if you would like to contact us about your car. I ordered and sold all the Peformance cars for Scuncio Chevrolet and ran my own race team back in the 60's and 70's. I have talk with some of you on line and on the phone and its been great, but an open forum is just not for me. If you are looking for any info feel free to send me an email.

Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Hi Bob, Welcome to the site! You were truly an Icon in the great Northeast DIV-1 region. ALL your cars ran real well in those days. They were the days when you had to actually know something and the drag strip was the dyno! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Hi Bob,
Glad to see you on the site. Thanks for participating as I know you are a wealth of knowledge from an incredible era! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Chris P. |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Good to see someone had the foresight to save all of that info. Welcome here!

Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Bob, Would you post some pictures of the 1968 Head Hunter Chevelle? Also, What is the car's color code on the trim tag? Thanks, Tim E. Penton, Jr.

Here is a neat piece I thought I'd share from my collection...Can you tell me any more about this 69 Camaro?
Steve |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
That red 69 Camaro was driven by the late Joe Delorenzo. The car broke records in the US and Canada.

Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
The car ran in many differnet class,SS/J,SS/JA,SS/N,SS/M etc. Joey could drive anything and drove a 4 speed car like most can only dream of. He set this track record on 11/6/76 with the Camaro doing 11.34 at 118.26 with a 350 4 speed combo in the car. The car is still raced today.

Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Great you're here Bob!.
Joey's times are amazing for a SB car!. Gotta ask, would Joey be related to Tony DeLorenzo of Road-Racing fame?. Tony was most famous for his rides in the Owens-Corning Team Corvettes...Don Yenko co-drove on a few occasions too.. I may be wrong but seem to remember reading that Tony's father may have had some connection or worked for GM?. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
-----Tonys father was a GM vice-president and apparently doted on his son as Tony recieved one of the 20 67 L88s (black) as well as a black 69 L88 roadster that went to Europe eventually and then returned to be restored a few years ago at the Nabors in Houston. Both cars were seriously raced and abused. The 69 will be showing up for sale any day now and is just a beautiful car with a seriously cool pedigree. Tony actually came to Bloomington Gold the year the 69 was judged and won a high-point gold. I would be surprized if there was any relation between Joey and the Detroit DeLorenzo family but dont know for certain.
-----As a sidebar, Tonys brother has a cool website called AUTOEXTREMIST.COM. Always a different perspective on Detroit type happenings.........Bill S |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Thanks for the info Bill...very interesting stuff and quite the position to be in as the son of a GM VP!.
Wonder what happened to that original Owens-Corning L88 hood that was floating around last year?. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ouguysrock.gif ~ Pete |

He had never said anything, and I knew who Tony was back then. Bill did I sell you a car back in 69? |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
------I dunno, Bob. I tried to buy the green ZL1 off the floor of Scunzio sometime in May 69, I think, but after driving it couldnt justify the extra "jack". Then went back to the Cape and bought a 396/350 Garnet red Camaro SS from the Chev dealer in Falmouth. If we met, maybe it was thru Tony P as I knew him back in the day, and he is still a friend today.........Bill S

Thanks Guys, Rich [/ QUOTE ] The red car is the one in the 72 recored app,the car is still raced by the Emmons brothers out of Texas and is still red with a white top. Joe D lost a battle with cancer about four years ago,he was a true friend and the best men at my wedding. I have some pictures and other stuff if you would like to see them,I have to have a friend of mine help me to post them so it will be a day or two. |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Wow! Cancer sucks.
Joe seemed like he knew his way around the track the way you guys describe him. What's cool is that there is so much attention to the "Super" cars, and big block cars in general that we sometimes miss what the skill of a driver can do for a car! I am into the unusal camaros, and LM1's fall into that category (as well as L30/M20's and 1LE's). One of these day's I'll finish the LM1 registry website. When you get some time, sure, I'd love to see the pics (and get downloads of that's ok), and even here more about Joe and his racing. Rich |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
Rich I sent you an email. I sold a Cortez Silver LM1 Camaro that had tach and console gauges,M21,rosewood wheel,12 bolt, disc brakes,Chambered exhaust, tilt, and tinted glass. We swapped an LT1 in the car for the owner in 1970,he still has the car today.

Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
CRG site says M21 close ratio 4 speed only available in L34,Z28,L78,L89. Refers to M20 only in LM1.

It also says that you could only get M20 in a SS350 as well, and I thought there were recent documented SS350's with M21's? Correct me if I am wrong. I can almost swear that I had one (remember the black LM1 with the austin powers shag red carpet?) with the M21 in it several years ago, I remember becuase of the "short" first gear I thought it was a M22, but with the help some guys at camaros.net it was identified as a M21 (which I think the M22's were still limited to BB cars?). Not 100%, it was several years ago! Of course, I also never looked for a VIN stamp, so it could have been a service replacment or later add on. What is odd about the LM1's (from the CRG article) is that they got the smaller Z28 clutch instead of the SS350, and many of the LM1's have the 4 leaf springs (from my observations) although I have had two with 5 leaf springs) like many Z's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Then of course, even though there was no badging, the LM1's got the SS350 style chrome Air Cleaner. Kurt, any clarification? Bob, do you remember anything about the LM1's from back in the day? Did the car that Joe race get ordered specifically for the LM1 options, or was that just chance? Rich |

[/ QUOTE ] I read the thread over there, and i dont see one reply where anyone believes an m21 was available in anything other than a 350HP 396,Z28,L78 L89 or Copo either .Would love to see the factory paperwork on this one. In addition to the m21 issue, from the camarosource site " RPO NC8 (chambered exhaust) available only when SS with 325hp, 350hp or 375hp engine, or Z28 was ordered." |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
I went and dug out the paper work to this LM1 car. It did have a M20 in it when ordered. The chambered exhaust and M21 were added when the LT1 was installed.

I have a 70 Z, all stock, and that LT1 is killer, even though I have the TH400! I love it. Looks like the M20 thing is settled. Always learning. Bob, did Scuncio convert cars after the sale, ie was this and other cars taken back for a conversion, or was this your sponsorship, ie Bob Johnson enterprises? And if so, what were the thoughts on the LT1's back in the day? Thanks Again, Rich |
Re: Scuncio Chevrolet
We installed any engine in any car untill the EPA shut that down. We would swap the engine when the car was new or later on if the owner wanted. All of the race cars were paid for out of my pocket,Scuncio had nothing to do with the race program that was all me. The LT1 was and still is a great engine,I sold about 12 Vegas with the LT1 in them but nothing beats a Big Block.
