What used super sports red line tires F70 14 NOS

What vehicles if any used a Firestone Super Sports Wide Oval SUP-R-BELT F 70 14 redline tire from the factory, if any. I have a set of them that were mounted on some rims and have only been used on a car when it went into a car show. They look brand new. How can you tell if they are repro or not. The guy i got them from said they are NOS and he had them for 9 years. Look perfect. Thanks.

I have an original/nos spare tire that is a wide oval. There are date codes on the originals. I believe this tire was used by Chevy and Ford models. Would be correct for 1969 and earlier. I'm pretty sure the redline was not used any longer on the 1970 and later models....

I think the repros have a "made in xxxx" stamped in the rubber on the back. Can't remember which country, but I thought it was a latin american country........

They're Repops.
George thats a McCreary tire code which reproduces that tire today and has been as far back as the early 1990's.
That's showing a 33rd week of 1991 manufacturing date.
McCreary tires are marked with an eleven-digit DOT code. The first four characters identify the McCreary plant number, the next four characters identify the McCreary mold Number (Part No.)..the next two digits identify the week of the year and the last digit indicates the year of manufacture.
For example CYLD F4K5331:
*(CYLD) is the plant number.
*(F4K5) is the mold or part number.
*(33) is the 33rd week of the year.
*(1) for 1991.

1967-70 Chevelle Super Sports used these tires originally.
More common on the 67-69 models, and were extremely scarce on 1970 Chevelles, but a hand full did receive them,(I believe 8),on the assembly line.

Rick,,,Wouldnt the Firestone wideovals for GM and Ford 67 muscle have both a red and a white stripe tire with the stripe far out towards the outer edge of the tread??? I think they may have been recalled towards the end of the model year though as Firestone was having problems with cracking around the perimeter by the stripe. I had them on my 67 SS Chevelle for about two weeks when I bought the car new (smoked the tread right off them as I recall). I actually think they look cool now........Bill S

Must be the same lot run that was on my early build '68 Chevelle. They had the red stripe further from the bead and cracked like crazy in just over a year.

Just one of my many bad experiences with Firestone. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

Hi Rick, is there anyting you do not know about something that involves codes or part numbers. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I was asking if anyone knows of a website i can put old GM part numbers into that will give me an application and description of the part. So why don`t you pry into the files of your big old brain and see if you know any sites like that, Thanks Rick i appreciate the help. George https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
