Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
Be careful with that dealer. It would be best to personally inspect and drive any vehicle before you buy it from them. "Dr. Dave" has screwed over many.

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
Very nice car.. But as Mopar Steve indicated BE CAREFUL WITH THIS DEALER!!! I have heard thru the grapevine that he has been sued over cars he sold and advertised as "numbers matching" when the new owner's found out that they were not or re-stamps.. Suprisingly "Dr. Dave" has won these court cases and I heard that the particular Judge that heard the cases stated it was ok to indicate "numbers matching" in an ad. He ruled that "Dr. Dave" would be at fault if it was stated "vin matching" in the ad.. I realy do not know what difference this makes in an ad I think it is all the same. I am just relaying what I heard. I guess "Dr. Dave" is an actual retired Dr. from the PA area that buys and sells musclecars as a "hobby."

A friend of mine went down there to look at the cars and he relayed the same thing everyone on other sites have said. They only look good in the pictures. The Dr. sold a soldier in Iraq his dream car. If I remember correctly, it was a GTO? The car was advertised as a perfect restoration. He bought the car sight unseen. Upon returning home, He found the car was NOWHERE near perfect. This guy is a real crook. He's only in it for the money. |
Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
For the record, I have no affiliation with this "Dr. Dave". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
Well, the guys at Team Chevelle are having a discussion about the car and it ain't looking too good for the car.I just remembered Tim looking for that color and engine and thought he may be still looking.
|
Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
I just can't believe that the engine still has it's original paint after looking at the photos.
|
Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
I think I might call next week and schedule an appointment to view these cars.

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking for?
There is NO WAY that this Chevelle has the original engine paint on it as stated in the ad. It looks way too clean and good for being 39 years old!! I also find it hard to believe that someone would be selling a low mileage, all original, numbers matching, L78 68 Chevelle for $48,000. HEY, I WAS BORN AT NIGHT BUT NOT LAST NIGHT!!! Cut the BS already!!

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking fo
Hey fellas thanks alot for the info. I'm trying to look through my files to see if this is the same car that was for sale a while back like I believe it to be. IF it is the same car it is not real and has never had any paper work. The car that I have info. on around here had the deluxe Buick interior also and was for sale by a dealer for a long time. By the way the car that I am refering to was for sale in Hemmings a few years back..... that owner sent me the info. complete with vin tag, cowl tag rubbings, and pictures. The car had a three speed, a primered door, the front cap was off of it, the motor (which was not #'s matching) also was not installed. The car did appear to have original paint on the non-primered areas but I promise that the paint in those current dealer pics is not it!!!!!! I'm going to check out Team Chevelle and hopefully I can find the file on this car. Thanks alot guys I'm really impressed that so many of you folks remembered that I am still looking for a real tripoli turquoise L78 1968 Chevelle. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking fo
I see several things that are definately not orginal to the car in my opinion: #1 the brake booster is clearly a repop as is the chrome oil dipstick.I also agree with the others that the paint on the engine is just too nice to be the orginal paint. #2 and I'll need some help here from one of you Chevelle experts ( Mr. Vasic, are you reading this thread ) I don't believe that this style of dog dish cap was available until 1969 and was it even available on a Chevelle? If I'm wrong, someone please correct me because I just don't know for sure. These are all very minor things, but Dr. Dave claims the car is ALL completely original except for the exhaust and the battery. With all that being said, I still think this is a beautiful car and I would most definately love to own it!

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking fo
These dog dish hubcaps were available on 68 Chevelles. My buddy has them on his 68 and I also have an old 1968 edition of Hot Rod Magazine where they feature a 1/4 mile track test on a new 68 Chevelle SS 396 car and these hubcaps are on the car...

Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking fo

That's the beauty of this site, people willing to share a wealth of information and knowledge, I think I learn something new just about every time I log on. Thanks again for the info! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Attention Tim Penton...L78 you were looking fo
I also remember this car being listed with a different dealer for quite some time......seems like it was a dealer located in Michigan.
