1969 Impala 427; bought one today

So I came across this car (and bought it) and the person is really hurting and selling off a bunch of his cars. He has a 69 Impala; NOT an SS, bench column set up with a 390hp 427 in it. Car is super clean, 65k miles orig, and spent all its life in Texas and then two years in storage up here. No rust, couple small scuffs but nothing major. Has rallys with new redline radials, runs and drives good but you can tell it will need to be freshened up a bit. Needs a little front end work, a carpet, tune up and that is about it, most of the paint on the car is original and it is matching numbers. I know these cars are a bit of an acquired taste but my thought was what else can you buy today with a 427 in it for short money??? I paid $6k for the car, does anyone want to offer an opinion, I think I did pretty good but interested and respectful of all opinions.

Scott...I think you did REAL good. Enjoy it. (I paid 2500 for a basket case 390-427 engine only)

thanks tony, that is what I was thinking as well. I have a 71 Camaro SS 350 4spd so this will be a good luxury ride and a bit more comfortable for the kids. I remember driving around in high school with four of us in front seat of one of these.

I was going to comment when you asked the question on the ss427 site but didnot since I didnot want to impact your potential purchase. The drive train running is worth what you paid . Getting the car to go with it is a bonus. As far as aquired taste I would say the same about the second generation Camaro you mentioned was your speciality.I am no 69 Impala fan but give me one of those big sleds any day for a nice cruiser especially one with a BBC.
Good luck with the car.

touche, and thank you for the info. I think it is something special and agree that not every car is every ones cup of tea. important thing is that it is a cheyy I think.
I will try to put up some pics when I get it settled.

Thanks again.
Scott.

Did Chevy built any non SS Impalas with a 427? There was one on Ebay a few weeks ago but I wasn't sure if it was a factory built 427 car.

Scott,
I will give you $6500 for it tonight! There, how convincing is that? I think you got a pretty damn good deal!

James,
As far as non SS 427 equipped cars, Chevrolet built an absolute boat load of them. Many were of the 335 hp variety but many were built none the less.
