Found Engines or Buildsheets links?

Hi,

New here. Just wondering if there is an area on this forum for found items such as blocks with original VINS or found build sheets? i am looking for block/buildsheets for my 1970 LS6 Chevelle - Arlington Car 218676 last six digits of VIN. Thanks in advance.

Good luck finding an Arlington Build Sheet. They're as rare as an honest politician!

Re: Found Engines or Buildsheets links?

nah, brought it up from California 5 years ago. Unrestored hardtop car that the guy had sitting in his garage for 15 years with kids toys and crap stuffed around it. Six owners. Sold new in Yuba City, California. I Managed to find the original owner. He ordered it while stationed in Singapore during the Vietnam War. Car was waiting for him at the dealership (Daoust Chevrolet, Marysville-Yuba City) in June of 1970 when he got back to the States. Only race he ever lost was to a factory L72 Biscayne with big gears he said.

Trans and engine long blown up and gone, but body was solid as a rock - factory primer on the floor and paint markings on the original 4.10 12-bolt and front suspension still. I have a date-coded CRV engine in it now with a M-22 that's also out of an LS6 chevelle. I'd say it's 50% original paint as the quarter on the driver side was replaced due to a fender bender and that back half of the car and trunk lid was blended craberry red. Loves to be hammered on. Active Engines (Dream Car Garage on SpeedVision) built the motor for me. Fun car. Thanks for asking.

Most Arlington build sheets have been found under the tar barrier either on the passenger or driver side front floor. Good luck hunting

This is the most common place I see them or hear that is where they are found, the driver's side foot well.

What's the VIN # on the CRV block & M-22 in your Chevelle now?

Lucky for me it came with its original air pump and exhaust manifold pipes and the correct original california holley carb with the little downdraft tube in the bowl.

Re: Found Engines or Buildsheets links?

Thinking more about Tracker's original question/intention...why don't we have a page here listing found/known/spotted 'possibly original' engines/trannys/build sheets that have gone astray from their cars...don't some Mopar and 'Vette sites do this?.

No question there'd have to be disclaimers on the pages also we'd have to put up w/ the odd shuckster trying to legitimize restamps or whatever other games may result...but overall it seems there's a good chance we could get a few genuine original lumps back between the rails they were delivered in?.

And I'm not suggesting we post pics of what's been found, maybe not even the engine stamping date, suffix, castings etc...perhaps only the Vin of the item and last known location and let the owner of the Vin be responsible for authentication and further info?.

We all see them at swaps, on eBay and elsewhere...ChucKing could perhaps fill a few pages himself?.

What's anybody else think...and is this something the site would even consider?.

I think it would be great. I know someone with an original 69Z who is the second owner. When it started smoking in the 70's, he had the eng swapped, he would be thrilled to find the original block now. That block is out there somewhere, although it has most likely been restamped.

I think this would be a great resource. I know i would love to find the correct motor for my arlington built chevelle. Looks to be an original 396 car and vin ends 215140

Re: Found Engines or Buildsheets links?

Before all the 'wanted to find' stuff gets too far, this is a completely different situation w/ it's own concerns!.

Be careful laying out too much info as today's shucksters could easily create an engine for you by knowing only your partial Vin and build plant!.

In many cases, knowing only the year and model of your car and combining the Vin's last six w/ monthly production listings of the known plant gives enough info for a 'numbers matching' engine to be created...without even needing to know the body style!.

Sure, it's a bit of a chance perhaps for a crook to take but considering the value an original engine has on certain cars, if he knows you're already looking and has the correct castings on hand...he may not even bang the Vin etc into it until he has you partially on the hook!?.

I added the 'orphan' boards to the CRG forum about a year ago.
Here's the 69 board:

It could very well be 175 and not 775 - it's back by the oil filter and it's pretty choppy back there.
