Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova SS
I need some help deciphering the body trim tag on the firewall of my 1969 Nova SS big block car. Here is what the trim tag shows:
1st Line: ST 69 11427 WRN201339 BDY 2nd Line: TR 733 10 10 PNT 3rd Line: OJB A 3 If anyone can help me interpret the above trim tag data on my 1969 Nova SS, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gifIrish |
Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova SS
You can go to this website and get all the information you need.
http://novaresource.org/c69.htm 1=Chevrolet 14=Nova V-8 27=2 door sedan TR=trim: 733=black vinyl buckets PNT= paint: 10 10= Tuxedo black w/out a vinyl top A=first week of the month Not sure what 0JB is or the 3. Are you sure you are reading it corrrect? Maybe someonelse can help on those codes. Kurt |
Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova SS
I think the lone "3" on the third line meant that the car had all three molding packages but I am not 100 % certain on this.. Marlin and I were just discussing this on another thread.. Marlin am I correct???

Thanks for the info. It was hard for me to clearly make out the 3rd or last line. After looking at it again, it could be: 018 A 3 does that mean anything? Someone who has restored a lot of Chevies told me that it is 'peculiar' after he personally looked at it. Irish |
Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova SS
I think your 8 is a B....01B would be 2nd week of January...the A denotes the interior trim color (black) and the 3 stand for 3 exterior trim accents. Why not post a picture of the car and tag....

Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova SS
Wilma, my wife thought it was an 8 instead of a B but I believe you are probably right. I tried to post a pic of the trim tag but couldn't upload it. I'll try to post a pic of the 69 Nova SS taken back in 1979.

Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
Cool car, looks like drip rail, door frame and body side moldings. I like the crimped heater core outlet, looks like a disc brake hose bracket with the correct attachment bolt to the upper a-arm, somebody didn't like that heater box eh? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Funky looking blower motor, but might be the angle of the pic!

Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
Thanks everyone!! That one photo of the car was taken back in 1979 when she was only 10 years old. The lady needs to have the restoration someone else started completed and will be restored right. I don't know why someone made those two (2) holes in the heater core unless it was an ac car.

Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
Nah, couldn't get a/c on a BB Nova, and a/c cars didn't have that core cover - they had the big 'suitcase'.
Have you searched for/found the broadcast sheet? |
Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
Marlin
I haven't searched around yet for the broadcast sheet because I have a bunch of car parts piled up in the back seat. Once I get the car all emptied out and the parts organized inside my garage, I will then search for one. would a 454 Chevy engine with Merlin heads, Edelbrock manifold, etc. before well in this 69 Nova SS or should I just stick to a 396? |
Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
That's a hard call, as there are many Novas out there that have all the L78 signs/parts - but no documentary engine block or paperwork.
I'd search for that broadcast sheet real hard before deciding how to restore it, bec/ if you find that sheet and it has the L78 code on it - then it's a documented car and well worth sticking with the 396. |
Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
A factory black 69 thatt is way cool. even if you cant find the paperwork i would still make it look factory appearing.

Re: Need Help Deciphering Trim Tag for 1969 Nova S
the car came with 427 emblems and parts.
