Now if they could design a shaker hood with a true cold air system....Hemi, 6 speed, with shaker hood sounds tasty.

They could have done better with a 70 Challenger vrs a 74 in the ad. Maybe a 70 RT/SE hemi, or 440, in hemi orange. If you're looking to tie into the performance past, 74 was past prime time. JMHO.

I think the comparison is the lines, not the performance.
But I don't know where the photo is from . . . from my press kit, there's nothing like that. |

Re: RT & SE Challenger
I FEEL ALONG WITH I THINK MOST OF US THAT THE NEW CAMARO HAS GREAT DRIVE TRAIN BUT THEY COULD HAVE MADE THE CAR LOOK MORE LIKE THE 1969 MODEL. LOOK AT FORDS SALES NUMBERS OF THE STANGE AND NOW DODGE HAS TAKEN NOTE. I BET THE CHALLENGER MORE THAN OUT SELLS THE NEW CAMARO. THE NEW VETTE IS KILLER BUT HOW ANY OF US CAN AFFORD A ZR 1 ?

Those Challengers need fatter rubber / wheels on the back.
I am reserving my opinion of the Camaro until I see one in person. |

Re: RT & SE Challenger
Johnny,
I can't believe you didn't wait for the attempted gouging for 15K over sticker? LOL My local Ford dealer held out for over a year at over MSRP on the GT 500 and finally gave in and let me order one at MSRP. The local Ford dealers here are selling a lot of Shelby's to out of state buyers who buy them in Vegas and have them shipped to the Vegas Shelby factory for mods so they are some of the last dealers to offer the GT 500s at MSRP. I don't understand Dodge's plan with the Challenger. I love the car but don't want to be sitting at a stop light with my 425 HP two pedal Challenger when a guy in a GT 500 with 500 HP drops the clutch and walks me? It's one thing to be in your four door two pedal 425 HP family Charger and another IMHO to be driving around town in a 4000 pound Challenger styled after the iconic Challengers of the past boasting a whopping 425 HP in a car that says drag race me if you can all over it(not that I would street race and break the law)? The 2008 Challenger is perhaps the epitomy of the old saying "all show and no go". I bet GM doesn't make the same mistake and right out of the box the Camaro offers 500 HP and a stick to take on the Mustang? |
Re: RT & SE Challenger
I am not sure what mistake was made?
Dodge decided to roll out the SRT first. Perhaps they couldn't get the stick certified in time? Whatever the case, you can order one in a matter of months. Regarding the Camaro, I think it's a hell of a lot more original than the Challenger. I will reserve judgment when they release production pictures - why get all worked up over a prototype? |
Re: RT & SE Challenger
The mistake from my point of view is the choice to install the 425 HP "station wagon" motor currently used in the four door Charger making it immediately down 75 HP to it's nearest competitor the Mustang GT 500. I understand having a 425 HP motor in the family oriented four door Charger but question the wisdom of building a new two door pure performance oriented Challenger with 425 HP motor?
The two pedal configuration really doesn't bother me. It's the lack of 500HP that cause me to pass on the Challenger. I have a 70 HEMI Challenger and was really looking forward to the new modern version to park next to it, so I am not a Dodge basher. I don't think Chevy is going to roll out this new camaro and immediately concede 75 HP to the Mustang. |
Re: RT & SE Challenger
I think the problem is your point of view. The Challenger is brand-new, so why not let the vehicle settle in the market and see what happens? At least Dodge doesn't have to engineer an engine for the Challenger - it's already in the portfolio. With the mess that Chrysler's in at the moment, it just doesn't make sense to introduce a super-zoomy engine from the get-go . . . hell, even the Mustang took a few years to get 500hp, right?
|
Re: RT & SE Challenger
The interesting thing is that the stick-shift, R/T version for 2009 has a 5.7 liter, 375 horse hemi engine while the auto gets the 370 horse version. The stick motored car also does not get the multi-displacement hemi that goes from 4 cyl to 8 cyl.
I would imagine they are going to upgrade the 425 horse SRT version very rapidly to the 392 hemi engine. That's a classic Viper marketing move: keep upping the power every year so you have to buy the next greatest version out of the factory or get sand kicked in your face at the beach. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

I thought about the GT 500, though I have not had a stang since my 88 gt 5sp vert. I am starting to get confused with all the iterations of the mustang. I think I want what you have. a GT 500. I want a six speed convertible. I know the Shelby one is getting a ton over sticker. What is the diference between all these versions? John PS I will be in Vegas ( at the Mirage I think) from 4/8-4/10. I am meeting one of my brothers and our parents for a little relaxation. If you want to come pin my inards to my rib cage with one of your stable...........I would be game https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |

Re: RT & SE Challenger
So for 2009 the Challenger HP is going down from 425 to 375??? I read that on the VCA sight but thought I read it wrong and didn't comment. So what is the Dodge business plan? Continually reduce HP and performance as a way of competing in the marketplace for performance vehicles??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Johnny, the GT 500 is the Shelby GT 500 I just don't call it the Shelby because he has nothing to do with it other than loaning Ford his name it's in my opinion a SVT Mustang badged as a Shelby. He is building 319 HP versions at his factory called the Shelby SC or something derived from the 300 HP base Mustang. He(Shelby) is also building 1000 units of the GT500 KR which increases HP to 540 with some suspension tweaks. |
