69 Chevelle Dash Support Brace

Guys,

I am looking for a picture of the brace installed on the car that goes from the heater control to a reinforcement tab on the dash. I have looked this up in the AIM and I see where it installs. However, I had to install am AMD dash on car and it looks like this reinforcement tab that is part of the dash was not installed on the repro dash (big surprise!) I just wanted to confirm I am looking in the correct place for this reinforcement tab. I still need to remove the radio, but again just looking for an installed picture.

Thanks

I think this is what you are looking for?

Yes, thank you, but can’t tell if the reinforcement tab is on the firewall side of the dash brace or rear side of the brace?
Thanks for posting.

It is on the firewall side of the dash brace.

Sorry to belabor this point, but my car does not have this reinforcement mounting tab. I am going to have to make it. Is it welded to the dash brace or does it attach with a fastener? In the picture it looks like your brace has been loosened and just moved out of the way?
Thanks for the help.

I assume you are talking about the hard mounted tab and not the brace that connects to the tab? The heater control brace and radio brace, both attach to this tab. Here’s a picture from below. The brace has two spot welds holding it in place.

Thanks Phil, this is very helpful.

Since the part is spot welded will be tough for me to duplicate that. The repro dash has that large hole in the cross brace like the original but that's it. I suppose I can screw it or JB Weld something to the cross brace. JB probably won't hold well though.

Two short sheet metal screws will probably do it. I wouldn't trust any sort of glue.
