Tried to do a semi crappy job of painting the engine as they did at Tonawanda....Joe
|
that looks like crap Joe.LOL
|
Thanks Guy. I'm trying :)
|
Looks perfectly crappy!
Did Tonowanda use a "mask fixture" that covered most of the water pump hose and the stamp pad? I seem to remember a photo of that on the CRG site? |

On Aug 28th 1969 this car rolled off the assm line. That appears to be the date scheduled for painting it. I'm getting excited to get the car back so I can put it back together. They still have a little more to do after color. The shop has given me protective gear as I've been instructed to be in the booth during painting. They've been instructed to not duplicate overspray but don't prevent it either. I'll post more when it happens...Joe

Looking great Joe. I'm excited for you and can't wait to see it in color.
Bet you ain't sleeping much now. (lol) |
Thanks Graeme. Can't wait till tomorrow to see if will actually happen. Sleep? What's that?...Joe
|
Very nice

I'm imagining you handing around cigars as they turn off the lights in the paint booth!
|
Are you up yet? Are you at the shop? Are you sitting in your vehicle while you wait for the shop to open?

Talk to the painter before you head into the booth and tell him if he can detail the car like you want, you'll be happy to graft him a few bucks for helping get you the desired result.
Good luck with your day and remember the breath. :headbang: |

Painted today. Rockers, firewall, & tail light panel get the black treatment Monday. On this day 51 years ago it rolled off the assm line...Joe
|
Beautiful! You must be very happy (and relieved) Joe, congrats.

There is definitely a difference between many paint products and the guns/pressures used to spray them. The color is looking great and the mix looks spot on Joe.
Very happy for you and cannot wait to see more. |
It looks good Joe
|
Congrats, Joe. It's looking good.

Didn't get to do the black today. He got behind on other cars. Plans to do it tomorrow or Wednesday. Plans to return to me on Friday. I will probably get it next weeks. You know...crap happens :) Joe
|
Wow looking good there Joe. Nice to finally get paint done and get to the point of reassembly. To me, thats the best part of a complete redo. Putting it all back together.
|
Thanks Mike. Painter still plans on returning it to me Friday. We were having a discussion about the black on the tail light panel. I told him he was taping it with too much care. I'll show comparison pictures of others when he is done....Joe

These are 4 pictures of cars that have original paint. It shows that the GM worker was just trying to complete cars & not make show pieces when doing the blackouts. The silver car is probably the worst for accuracy. These pictures are what my painter has to work with. Some of you guys will recognize your own cars....Joe
|
the silver car looks familiar.

Joe, I believe the blue car was owned by David Schroeder of Canada. I helped judge that car in the Vintage Certification at 2019 MCACN. A great car and so is the owner.
