The Silver 396 was a cool car. Did the new owner get it up and going? Hopefully it's not getting restored. I was told it was a original 12k mileage car. If the new owner would post the car on CRG or here that would be great. Not often do you see low mile cars that are all original.

I took 5 pictures this morning of the blackouts. Didn't like a single one of them but thought I would post the picture of the tail. It comes home this afternoon or tomorrow. I'll take better pictures then...Joe

Joe that looks really good. :headbang:
|
Thanks Mike. It's hard to make them not so perfect...Joe
|
I love your approach to have those factory-style paint details :beers:
|
Thank you Matt...Joe
|
I like it Joe.
And I know what you mean on trying not to make it perfect. It's very hard to hold back like that. In either case...stellar job! |
Thanks Graeme

I got the car back last evening & took some pictures this morning. These are more pictures of the tail light panel with the hand made flaws as the factory did. The last picture is looking at where the tail light comes through the body. Almost every car I looked at that was original had very little black paint on the upper lip. Possibly as to not get black paint on the bottom of the trunk lid..Joe

Beautiful work Joe. I'd say you got it dialed in just right.
I am sure you're real happy to have it home and will be following as you start putting it all back together. Congrats! |
looks good Joe

Here's a couple of pictures of lines that are not well defined. Since the car has no wheel lip chrome it had to be determined how those lines in the wheel well would end. How it actually happened may've been determined by who had the tape in their hands...Joe

Car looks great. Congrats

Thank you Darrell. Now the fun begins :)

Parchment top got you White D90 didn't it?

Thanks James. I'm trying just to see if I can.
Daytona yellow is always black. I did it wrong the first time. I hope Bruce doesn't mind me using one of his pictures :) That's one of Dave Beem's pictures you posted. I saw you also posted some on Norcam's. Neat. Thank you Joe |
69 Big block
Joe...great looking car! Do you have the famous lower A/C shield for the big block a/c cars o it?

Thought I would post some pictures. This is a hobby & not a job so sometimes I don't seem to get a lot done. Doors are part way together & heater-a/c back together. That was a little tricky with only one person. I had a bad regulator which I was able to find thanks to this group. Starting on the 28th or so I will start putting emblem, handles, locks etc back together. The smell of new paint is almost gone from the garage....Joe

looking good Joe

Looks amazing Joe! Can't wait to see it all back together.

Fantastic work Joe!

No new photos for everybody. Been working with side glass & regulators. Found out the left regulator will actually bolt into the right hand door so I had to fix that. Adjusting the glass is time consuming. Installed 1/4 louvers, door locks, & door handles. That little bit adds to the color. Next is to do the trunk spatter. I will try the can I have & hope for the best. More pictures to follow....Joe

OK. Here's a question. I know it's something most of you would never encounter but at 157,000 miles, this car still has about 90% of it's original exhaust system. The muffler was change some years back with a NOS GM muffler. The system is still solid as it can be moved around the shop in one piece. I would like to continue using it but would like to clean it up.....maybe.
Now the question. What would you do to save & reuse this system? Thank you, Joe |

Did some cleaning on the tail pipes today after moving the car to another bay. Cleaned up pretty good for being 51 years old & 157k miles. I'll clean some more tomorrow. Found numbers on the LH tail pipe in 2 different location. There's one on the RH but I'll have to wait till I turn it over. Interesting how the RH was 2 piece & the LH was 1 piece.....Joe

Amazing the original exhaust is in such good condition Joe!
|
Thanks. Very rare to see them like this.....Joe
|
Wow! I guess you can thank Arizona for that....

Those are coming out really nice Joe. What are you using to clean them up like that?

Try 000 steel wool on the shiny parts, sometimes a little WD-40 helps speed up the process.
