Is this Jack Seymor's old Z28?

I just saw this on Youtube and thought it looked, and sounded, like it could be the Z28 that Jack had so carefully cleaned and preserved.

Sure looks like it. Another beauty from the Brothers collection.

Did Chevy paint the gas tank straps body color as pictured on this car?

Yes that is typical on second gens. I believe they were partially installed (no gas tank)and hanging when the cars were painted

That is my understanding as well... and how I restored the 73 Z28 additionally that is how the survivor 30k mile 70 Z28 picked up back in January shows as well.

I have some information to add to the discussion.

My 70 had just a trace of paint on the straps not heavy OS like Jack's car did neither did my 1973. During the interviews for the book I asked specifically about the Fisher element of attaching the gas tank straps.

Exhibit #A for discussion was Jack's painted straps. First supervisor stated "looks like a third shift car to me-sloppy" The other superintendent stated "that looks to be no strap tape to me"

'The coach was suspended from hangers in paint and if the straps were free hanging there was a risk of damage to the strap as well as the coach-and even a tripping hazard if the strap was bent all the way around the rear outer lip of the lower body pan at the rear for the painters trimming out the body'. The front of the strap was to be secured with tape.

Fisher and Chevrolet were competing divisions during this period and quality gaffes like this had the potential to result in Chevrolet charge backs against Fisher Body.

Make no mistake this happened, but we need to be careful not to normalize a defective quality practice. Restore your car as it was built, that way you are never wrong.
