Exhausting thread
Were mufflers popular by region BITD? We were talking about that with some fellas and most remember certain brands that they used with types of cars. The GM crowd we hung out with, ran super turbos and sonics.

I got these from a local speed shop and never installed them. I think it was because of a broken 12 bolt yolk that held up my car for over a year. Driveshaft smashed both mufflers. What was popular in your area? Lets hear them! Scott |
I have a pair of original Hollywood Deeptone mufflers (oval) on my 68 Nova. I really like them. Mine are from the 80's and were new in box also. Mine are red. As far as regional tastes, I remember a lot of cherry bombs but the turbos quickly took over here in North Alabama in the 80's and then the Flowmaster showed up. I wouldn't doubt yours are made by walker but probably would sound very good. If your not going to use those beauties, I would be interested as I have something they would be perfect on.

Most of the hot cars around here were running Turbo's. The Corvair Turbo's were real popular, and so were these smaller Competition 692 Turbo's. I'm running this NOS set on my car today and love the sound of them.

I run Walker Turbo mufflers in the '69 Z... it sounds great, especially with 2.5 true duals and a nice set of Hookers! My diesel Denali sounds better than those crummy Slowmaster mufflers... stay away.

:haha::haha::haha: I've got a set of "slomasters" on my Camaro, which the guys I work with call the "Slowmaro". I guess that's fitting. Wait until I tell them tomorrow that the Slowmaro has Slowmaster mufflers on it!

I had a small block 1970 Nova back in the early 80’s. I went to Champion Auto and got a pair of Turbo mufflers but don’t recall the brand. Possibly Walker but not for certain.
Never heard of Flowmaster until later in the 90’s...Had them on a BBC Nova....the drone was so unbearable, even with a “H” pipe. Definitely not a fan of them at all. Kurt |
Sonic Turbo Mufflers for me... Had them on my 69 Nova with turn downs at the rear axle. Loved the sound.

Walker Royal Scot glass-pack style mufflers were pretty popular in the late-70s / early-80s. Had a cherry-bomb style case, but a much better sound. I think they had baffles inside instead of being straight-through. I recall them being painted a copper color.
In the 1990s, I was on a budget, and always ran the cheap Thrush Turbo mufflers that were like $10-15 ea. Didn't sound too bad, actually. |
The Walker 21348 were good mufflers that we ran back in the day -- Corvair Turbo Charger mufflers (I believe the number is correct) I believe these mufflers started the "turbo muffler" era ... TAZ

21348 is the correct number. I sold a lot of them back in the mid 70's. When I needed turbo mufflers for my 67 Camaro though, I went with the Maremont version, cause they were thinner top to bottom, and I didn't want them hanging down when I put them under the rear seat. |
