1969 pinion yoke. . . original?

The KK 12-bolt axle I bought has this pinion yoke with U-bolts instead of straps and bolts. I'm no expert but all the '69 and later 12-bolt axles I've seen had the straps and bolts. Could this be correct for an L78 Chevelle with 4.10 gears? It's a GM piece with a 986 number stamped on it. I was told that the Chevelle this axle came from was being raced and currently has 5.13 gears installed. The yoke could have been swapped out at some point. Opinions please.

Every KK I've seen has the straps. As far as that goes, every BBC 12 bolt application had the straps AFAIK. The small blocks used the straps. My experiences.

I think the early Chevelles had U-bolts. The '66 Super Sport I owned years ago had them, but I think I agree with you that this axle should have the straps and bolts. Thanks for the reply!

This is the only one I've found for sale. I just happened to be talking to someone at a show last month and he mentioned he had one.
