ZL2 hoods

The "official" number of ZL2 hoods ordered in 69 is about 10,000. I often hear qualifiers like, "Well, when you subtract the 3675 Z11, the 200 or so Z10, and the 1000 or so COPO, that only leaves 5000 or so actually ordered."

I thought the ZL2 was included in the COPO and Z11/Z10 as part of the package, so the 10,000 would be for all all Z28 and non-pace car 69 Camaros. Can someone clarify?

Looking at a copy of a Z10 window sticker it shows the mandatory ZL2 listed seperately even though it was part of the Z10 package.

Not true.

For Z10 and Z11 the ZL2 hood was required extra-cost equipment; not included with either option. On COPOs 9560 & 9561 ZL2 was included and does not appear on those cars' documentation. No idea if COPOs are included in the total ZL2 option tally.

ok, while we are on the subject...
what is the part number for an original ZL2 hood, and where is it located on the hood?

Original part number for the 1969 Camaro Cowl Induction,(ZL-2),hood is #3949708.
Aside from a stamped production date,I've never noticed anyother numbers on them.

Re: ZL2 hoods

i have a number on my hood on the drivers side lip, just above the hood hinge. i think it relates to the week. I posted a picture once on camaros.org on the topic when it seemed like nobody ever saw one before.

I do think at the end of the day, real zl2 hoods are rare, and figured it out to be 5000-6000 hoods to be shared over 396 and z28s cars as optional. this is outside of the pace cars and copos.

I did learn, have having my car inspected as being original, that the hole in the firewall is unique with certain aspects on how its done (the judges know what to look for, i do not), the coil bracket or coil itself is unique, the aircleaner body has to have some lip on the underside. I don't think having a relay alone on a firewall is the tell all of a real zl2 hood car, probably need the majority of the items to draw a conclusion along with paperwork, and to me the dated hood helps alot if the date matches the build of the car. it did on mine. 5000-6000 is not a lot over how may big blocks and z28s that were built. I think most don't tealize how rare the hood option is.

I didn't have to be a big block to get the ZL2 option.

yep, I forgot. I myself wonder how many did order on a regular 350 just cause it looked cool and helped performance. Its like a shaker on a 340 cuda. yep, you are correct, whoops.
