I am detailing my engine and I would like to know the Factory correct color of the dip stick and the dip stick tube ...1969 350 CID

Could be there was some plating on them, not obvious whatever it was. Or, just a better grade of steel.

There was enough oil leaking out of the valve cover by 30k miles, that the tube/ dipstick stayed shiny immersed under an oil bath mixed with road crud and, walah! Lifelong metal preserver....those engineers thought of everything:dunno:

IIRC, the SBC dip stick tubes were installed at the car assembly plant, not the engine plant. Not sure in '69, but in 1970, I've seen dip stick tubes from Van Nuys painted black, (Charley's former 1100 Mile 70 Z28). Is this a case where the answer could vary depending on the assembly plant?

I believe there were two available for the 1969 SS350 engine and the Z/28. One had the green tip dipstick and the other had a flat tip dipstick resembling the number 9. See pics
below...
