1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?

Does anyone know here if 69 Chevelle SS could have been built originally with a 396 engine with powerglide trans? I am looking at buying one that is supposedly a real SS and it is 396 with powerglide auto.

Absolutely not.
Once you entered big block territory,(L-35,L-34,L-78),you got the Turbo-Hydra if wanted an Auto.

Take a look at Dale's Chevellestuff site, here is the link to 1969 Power Teams:

BB/PG 66/67 'Vettes were built including 427 cars also '65 Impalas plus '66 SS Chevelles too but I can't say the same for '65 'Vettes, '66 Impalas or '67 Chevelles...anyone?
Although Suffix codes exist for some 67/68/69 A/B/F/X Body 396/Glide applications, I can't recall ever knowing of any...but would like to.

He's asking about the '69 Chevelle SS,which is what I was replying about.Yes they did it on a few vehicles years prior, but not during '69 production.
I thought I read a summer 1968 dated Chevrolet edict years ago about warranty issues being why with a PG behind a BB,and all across the board for all new BB equipped '69 vehicles.

----There were no 65 big-block/powerglide Corvettes. There were very few 66 big-block/powerglide 66 Corvettes. I know of probably 4. Now 67 is different as there were many. Of course, the numbers aren't known, only guessed at. They were a real pain in the butt as the trans crossmember was not removable until T-400s in 1968. You really had to wrestle one of those babies in and out! To my knowledge 1965 Impalas with low horse 409s would have had powerglides but 396s might have switched to T400s as the trans was being installed in other GM divisions in 65. 1966 SS Chevelles still had P/Gs in low horse option BBs and no 375hp auto options at all! 1967 Chevelles may have been split between the two automatics, but Im not sure. Some 325hps may have slipped thru with P/Gs but 350hps were T400s, and 375hps might have been available with T400s, I think. The 67s 375s are a bit of a question mark for me, though......Bill S

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with powerglide?

I know we are going off on tangents here but just for the record, correct on the 65 Corvette, no powerglides with big block as a matter of fact powerglides only available with 250 HP Std engine and the 300 HP L75 in 65. Now in 1966 both fingertip facts and all 3 versions of the 1966 Price and Facts books list the powerglide as only available with the std engine, 300 HP 327 motor. It was not available with the L79, L82 or L72 motor, so basically the GM books show was not available with any big block and only 1 small block.
