Shop Security System

What are you guys using for shop security system?

My shop is about 120 yards from the house.

There is no land line.

Would like to monitor with my phone.

Talked to someone at SimpliSafe today. Looks like about $300 for equipment and $24.99 per month to monitor.

I was a bit turned off as the sales assoc. said I could get a 30% discount if I sign up today. I hate pressure tactics.

I would recommend Ring or Wyze Security Cameras but if the building is that far from the house you may not get good reception from the router with these cameras. They do work very well and all you would pay is a minimal monthly fee for the Cloud backup service.

There are a few components to a good security system.
  • High Security Locks - The Physical Aspect (Keep them on the outside)
  • Monitored Alarm Systems - Electronic Detection (serves as a good deterrent)
  • Camera Systems - Video Support of Incidents (Does little to deter now-a-days)

Being a security professional, I usually recommend a bit of each. Install a few high-security locks with restricted keys, install a monitored alarm to protect the building, and install good quality cameras (not the cheap import crap).

If your shop is a ways from the house, you can also install a line of site wireless bridge which includes a transmitter w/ receiver. This will provide excellent wireless coverage from the shop to the house so you can run multiple data feeds. I have 4 cameras in and around my shop and it all communicates through a secure wireless bridge.

Security System...

We bought a system from Get Safe...worked OK. There is an app for your phone or computer....full array of sensors and gizmos.

Service was $24.99/month... https://www.getsafe.com/home-security-systems/

There are other great systems available from Colt, Smith & Wesson and Ruger :flag::wink:

AR-15 would work better from 120 yards!

Guardline makes good driveway and area monitors. They have two models 500' and 1/4 mile range. One monitor can have four sensors. Works great letting you know if someone or thing is out there. Gotta keep them high enough so coyotes can pass. Larry

I've got a 4 camera system that I can bring up on my TV screen in the house or my phone with excellent clarity day or night. You can set-up your own preferred security lines across the doors and windows virtually and if anything breaks the line it automatically sends an alert to your phone. My system was was $1000 installed and has no monthly fee. My only regret about it is that I didn't get it sooner!
