Depends on dates but generically speaking, yes they are very valuable.

What would one expect to pay for one?

Totally depends on condition, completeness of the rear and originality of gears and other parts, whether its rusted and pitted versus clean, rust free from a dry climate. Mostly see them in the $2K to $4K range.
