History of the NO Hop Bar???
 

Does anyone know the history of the No Hop Bars used on GM A body cars?
We ran a set on our car in the early 80's.I think those were made by Mr Gasket.
I do remember that they were cast out of aluminum unlike all the other ones that I have seen, that were cast out of cast-iron.
I was wondering who made them first and what year they were introduced to the market place.

I had them on my 65 Malibu ss in 1975. They were heavy as I recall...Joe

I have two sets, one goes to my 64 GTO and one to my 70 GTO, The 70 set has been with the car since day 2, and the 64 set around the same year. The same goes for the Black air bags they have. It appears to be Two different manufacturers though. One states No Hop. They are both mint as the cars have never been in the elements, Just track time

I’ve always assumed Genuine Suspension was the originator with many copycats that followed. Art Morrison/Dick Gazan probably had the most high quality version that were available in the ‘90’s. They definitely work well by re-locating the intersection points. I’ve always thought it was cool to see a 12 bolt at a swap meet with those distinctive holes drilled thru the webbing that indicate a set was once installed!

----I bought my set from Dick Gazan. He actually set up my suspension on Red Alert. Most of it was absolutely stock when Bob Hamilton raced it and he managed to set the record in SSDA at 10.90. Not sure how long he held on to that record as it was a highly competitive class. I was running 10.0s to 10.10s when I was at my best.....Bill S

Completely different style/principle but if any interest, Canada's Drag Dimensions offered Coil Spring Traction aids called 'Diggers' for 64+ A-Body cars as bottom of this '71 DD Catalogue pic below.
Diggers were designed by one of Drag Dimensions' owners Carl Rowland who was better known for his NHRA C/Altered Record setting Fiat, usually sporting Karbelt livery.
