Old photos
I've been looking through boxes lately, and discovering old photos from the early 70's. I thought you guys might get a kick out of them.
This first one was taken in 71 or 72, and was a local drag car. I can't remember too much about it and don't know if it was a COPO car or not. But, it might be familiar to someone else on here. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...Rat_Camaro.jpg Enjoy, John |
Re: Old photos
only one pic??? quit teasing us. Hey COPOPETE i see your mapleleaf on the front of this car and 427 badges you have anything on this car

Re: Old photos
Sorry. I think this is the only one I have of this car, but more are coming. I have to scan with my old computer, and then email them to myself on my new computer so I can upload them. I'll have to set up a network sometime soon. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
Anyway, here's another Camaro that raced under the name "Suddenly" in the Vancouver area. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...nly_Camaro.jpg |
Re: Old photos
This 66 Chev wagon was campaigned for years by these guys, and raced at the nationals a few times.

I remember growing up that many of the local gas stations had their own "bad ass" car that they'd work on after hours and park put front during the day; brings back memories. |
Re: Old photos
These photos are in no particular order, and I'm posting them because they need to be seen and enjoyed.
This photo is from 1983 at the racetrack in Kelowna B.C. An Anglia panel running against a Vega. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1.../ProAnglia.jpg |
Re: Old photos
In the mid 70's, myself and some friends rented some shop space in New Westminster B.C. to work on our cars. It worked out well, because we shared large tools and could get help on heavy projects. One of the guys was named Eric, and he had an early knack for building cars that would hook up well at the strip. He was building Pro Street cars before they showed up in the magazines. He built this car for his brother in Northern B.C. It started out as an ex government car, and became this little street terror. As I remember it was a 350/Turbo 350 car with a 9" Ford rearend.

Re: Old photos
Like I said before, this is going to be a mishmash of photos.
Here is a Challenger that I laid out the graphics on in Quesnel B.C. in the early 80's. It's the only photo I have, as I often never saw the cars finished. I ran a mobile service for car dealers all over the province, striping, polishing, and other services. This was a typical graphic of the time, so don't mock me too badly. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...r_Graphics.jpg |
Re: Old photos
Hey , Great shot's!! You must have been pretty busy back in the day?? Did it at least make it worth your while or did you do it just for fun ? Great Shots !!

Re: Old photos
This photo is from May 1975 at Boundary Bay Raceway just south of Vancouver. This was a disused airport and traction wasn't great. This Z28 looks like it was launching hard.

Here we have a 74 or 75 Trans Am running against a much quicker 340 Dart Swinger.

Re: Old photos
Here's a couple of 13 second cars going at it. I like these photos as much for what's in the background. Back then cars like this were everywhere. You could trip over them daily.

Here's a shot of their backsides. The 66 Cuda belonged to a friend, and had a 440 in it.

Here is the old Payless Auto 69 Camaro. This may be a COPO car. It has the look anyway.

As an example, my friends Cuda ran mid 12's there, but high 11's at Mission raceway or Seattle International |
Re: Old photos
Here's a Shelby GT 500 running a 2 door post 64 GTO.

Re: Old photos
And for you 2 door post Biscayne guys, here's a 65 running up against a Vega sedan. I could never warm up to this Vega body style. I had a couple of panels myself and liked them and the fastbacks.

Re: Old photos
Excuse the quality on this photo. I posted this one because this all black 69 Super Bee with red Bumble Bee stripe was a real screamer. Pretty sinister looking.

My first car was a 59 VW Bug, with 36 Hp. This one, with it's transplanted 454 has a few more.

Re: Old photos
This Maverick was sponsored by Car Care in North Vancouver. These cars, along with Vegas and Pintos with V8s always looked they had too much motor. Bulging hoods, and headers hanging down gave the impression that they were just crammed with motivation.

Re: Old photos
This Camaro was sponsored by Gladstone Motors on Kingsway. Looks a little twisted in this photo. They were a used musclecar dealer that occasionally had nice cars.

Re: Old photos
Ok, I was out of town for a few days, so I'll add a few tonight.
This photo is of an Austin A40 that was a Vancouver fixture for years. He drove this regularly on the street, and it was Big Block powered. Black with blue pearl flames made it a striking car. Sorry for the poor quality. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...nnightshot.jpg |
Re: Old photos
Another fuzzy night shot, of a Willys, though not a streeter.

Re: Old photos
This photo was from 71 or 72. Someone wasted no time making this Vega wagon into a race car.

Re: Old photos
This next series of photos is from 1975 on a section of old highway between Osoyoos and Keremeos BC. A bunch of guys got together and made arrangements with local authorities to close it off a few times that summer for drag racing. Word got around and it was pretty well attended. Cars from the southern interior of BC, and a few Okanagan County, Washington cars ran there. No timing equipment at first, but a good time was had by all. I did relief flag starting duties, but mostly took photos. I did run my 4 spd W31 there for the one time it was open in 1976. It shut down after it was determined that the insurance that they had wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
The local RCMP constable fully supported this as well. You'll see his police car in the background of a couple of the photos. (454 Biscayne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif) Of course there was an ambulance and tow truck there too. OK, this first photo shows the mayor of Keremeos and his 65 GTO running against the local Super Value owners El Camino. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...e%20cars/1.jpg |
