Just over a year after the North American Eagle land-speed racing team lost one of its two co-drivers, Ed Shadle, and vowed to continue his quest to set a land-speed record, its other co-driver, television personality and racer Jessi Combs, has died in a high-speed crash at the Alvord Desert in Oregon.

The crash took place Tuesday afternoon as the team conducted what was described as a test session on the desert. The test session was the team’s first since last year, when Combs ran the North American Eagle to 483.227 MPH, but a piece of debris damaged the turbine.

Just saw that...she was fearless when it came to speed! She was so much more then what people thought of her. She died doing what she loved I guess.

So many episodes on Overhaulin

RIP Jessi

An all around great human being with one hell of a personality. She brought a lot to our hobby and will be sorely missed. RIP Jessi

Very sad. The girl had guts, that's for sure. R.I.P.
It will be interesting to see if they can determine the cause. I am certainly no expert but I've always wondered about the stability of a plane-turned-car in these applications. Seems like the turbulence coming up off the ground is something it was never really designed for.
Did I read correctly that they had thoughts of going for the land speed record of 763 in that?

"Combs joined the North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger team as driver in 2013. Her goal was to pilot the car (built from a decommissioned fighter jet) beyond 512 mph, the record for Fastest Woman on Earth, set in 1976 by Kitty O'Neil."
