'62 Impala SS Convertible, Red/Red, #s 327/4-sp, Sitting since '72
Great car and worthy project for sure. Can't say I have ever seen a red-on-red '62 4-speed convertible in person.

It’s actually very restorable for an East Coast car that was only driven for 10 years. Although I’m a hard-core 409 guy, I really hope this one gets restored to it’s original 327/300 hp, 4-speed heritage because those cars certainly have their place in the world. Fantastic color combo & drivetrain that can be spectacular again if somebody from the current generation with deep pockets cares enough to do so. I certainly hope so . . .

I just passed on a 62 SS hardtop that my friend has owned for 40 years or more.
..I luv these cars, but restoration costs really make it too expensive. These cars are not as cheap as redoing a chevelle or camaro. This car is cool though being a vert and the color combo. Hope someone has the courage !! |

I agree with you Mark. here is nothing wrong with the way that car is optioned just the way it is. Although I can't tell if it was born a 250hp or 300hp. The carb set-up is correct for a 300hp, but I can't find evidence of a factory tach or sender, which would have been there with the 300hp-4-spd combination. I actually had a magazine editor ask me to find a '62 Belair Sport Coupe for a feature that wasn't a 409 car! They just don't exist. Verne I take that back. It has the hole in the firewall for the tach harness! Inner fender shows no holes for the sender though. Try to find that correct tach harness grommet! |
Verne, how ‘bout those crazy tail lights?!?!

The $$ for the trim resto on these old Chevys can be staggering, but they are very cool and I would love to have one

I noticed those. Lots of owners were cruizin through JC Whitney back then............ In fact, I bought a tube grille from them for the '56 Ford I had when I was 15. Verne |
