Lest we forget...

I usually don't miss this date, but somehow I did. Yesterday was the 78th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. One of the last survivors from the Arizona was buried among his fallen shipmates on Saturday Dec.7th....

May we always honor and remember their sacrifices made so long ago.

Pearl...

My dad was a Seabee...spent some time there at the end of the war. I saw a brief mention of the date on the news...the coverage gets less and less each year.

I was attending a gun show this weekend, they did observe a moment of silence. Special thanks to all our heroes. :flag:

I live in a 55+ community, and I was the only one on my block to be flying Old Glory

Dad was at Pearl on the WV during the attack. On the anniversary I always wonder what it must have been like for a 18 year old kid to have gone through that. He would tell me stories about pulling dead and burned bodies out of the water. He was below decks studying for his first mate test when it started. He ran up the ladders to get topside. By the time he got topside the WV had been hit and was listing and sinking. It settled into the mud on the bottom or it would have capsized. He jumped off and was picked up by a fire tug and spent the next day on it fighting fires. Said he finally got to Ford Island and slept on the beach. I just can't imagine. Probably all reaction. I could go on with the story, but you get the picture and there are thousands of stories just like it. My biggest regret is not being able to go with him to the 50th reunion. Sure do miss him. Gone now 11 years.

Arizona Republic newspaper had a story Saturday about Loren Bruner, one of the few remaining survivors from the Arizona, who had passed away in September. There are now only three survivors left. Loren's remains were interred in one of the gun turrets of the Arizona on Saturday at the annual memorial service. He was the last one to be afforded that honor, as the other three have other plans after their passing. :flag:
