Where to get fire extinguisher?

I've never had a fire on a car myself but having just witnessed a friend deal with one I'm getting some extinguishers.

My buddy has a Boss 302, he had the air cleaner off and the car was running, he did not notice the fuel bowl leaking and when he revved the car up it back fired and instant fire. Another fellow came by and poured his soda drink on it, well the drink spread the fire and it was a nasty situation. Fortunately not much happened.

I need to get a few in car extinguishers. Is Halon still the hot ticket? Any recommendations on where to purchase them?

Thanks in advance. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Good question, The powder makes a real mess of things.

With today's technology you can purchase an extinguisher that sucks the oxygen (killing the fire) without the powder mess. The name is slipping me right now, however.

H3R Performance has a great product call halguard. You can shoot it in the grill and it will seek out the fire without having to open the hood. Designed not to damage cars and leave minimal mess. to find a dealer contact

Get a BIG extinguisher. The little ones are not much good if you have a gas fire. It gets awfully hot awfully fast. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif Nice to have a ratchet and socket handy if you have to undo the battery cables in a hurry.

Re: Where to get fire extinguisher?

I have worked as a Captain on a full time department for 21 years and can tell you if you get a Halon fire extinguisher you would be wise. They remove all the oxygen in the atmosphere the fire is.They were originally made for computer rooms were you did not want any residue left.We can not get them refilled up here now because when they were set off they put the fire out quick but often also killed people in the fire area because of the oxygen deficent room. If you go to a local fire extinguisher company they may have some sitting around that could be purchased. Let them know it is for a garage that nobody works in on a regular basis. I have a 20 lb cannister hanging from my shop ceiling that is set to go off at 150 degrees. There is a new product also but I think I have heard it is in the development stage. i will ask Fire Prevention in the next day or 2 if there is anything else to take over from Halon.

Halon is the ONLY way to go! I carry in each of the cars. It's what I also used in the racecar. No Residue... that you'll be cleaning forever if you have to use it.
