Steve McDonald's (TopRat) 1970 LS6 Chevelle!

25 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone!

A few weeks ago I took a road trip out to Alberta to pick up a 70 LS6 Chevelle that I was fortunate enough to buy. Other than having a warranty short block installed in 1974, a Hurst shifter, headers, a 69 trunk lid and one repaint in the mid to late 70’s it’s complete and original including the M22. The car has sat outside for many years and to my surprise is 99% rust free and even retains its original exhaust system from the headers back.

My plan is to just tidy the car up a bit and drive it around. I’ve taken a bunch of pictures and hope you enjoy them.

Cheers Steve

Very nice Steve, I love it, especially without the BFG tires. Congratulations!

NorCam 12-02-2019 04:06 AM

Great car with excellent documentation Steve. Always knew of the car being here but never actually saw it myself. Excited to see what you do with cleaning it up. Congrats on the recent acquisition.

Wow! If you ever let that one go, I'd love to be first in line. It's the same color combo that my '70 350hp car has (I've owned that car since I was 17). Your LS6 would make the perfect pair. Best of luck with it!

I like the Hurst Street Super Shifter!!

Owner really opened up a serious access hole :-(

Is it a push down for reverse?

Spectacular. :worship:

SS427 12-02-2019 11:42 AM

Glad to see you were able to finally acquire it and get it home. Could not go to a better home and your friend will be smiling looking down on you.

RPOLS3 12-02-2019 11:50 AM

Very nice - congratulations

Lol they sure did a number on the floor hump. I saved a perfect original floor hump out of a car that was switched to automatic. I honestly don’t know if you had to push it down for reverse. All I know is that it really pissed me off cause it constantly jammed up. It now has a new competition plus made for the console. 👍

I would like to go through the shifter if it’s still around.

Quite enjoyable

Looks real nice Steve. Good luck with it. Good to meet you at Mcacn and thanks again for bringing the smog pump.

Mr70 12-03-2019 04:13 PM

Very nice, glad to hear it's getting back on the road.
Were the front & rear bumpers replaced or re-plated at the time of it's repaint?

I’m really not sure. Even the remote mirror chrome is almost perfect.

I know it’s not original to the car but I added bumper guards. I love the looks of them.

NorCam 01-31-2020 12:20 AM

I like them Steve. Bumper guards look awesome as you just don't see that many.

Nice touch!

scuncio 01-31-2020 02:05 AM

That car cleaned up really nicely.

Crush 01-31-2020 02:13 AM

Luv that Chevelle... especially the patina! Nice to know that special car has gone to someone that will preserve her the way her previous owner intended. Great job of cleaning her up.

It was good meeting you here in Calgary. Keep in touch, eh.

Thanks Helmet! I’ve got the drivers seat out being repaired now. I had an original pearl/ivory rear seat cover the guy was able to use to repair it. Just needed a few sections. 👍🏻

I took the car to my body guy last week. He is polishing up the old paint the best it can be and fixing a few spots.
