Wow, that's amazing.

I think the huge elephant in the room is...WHY was Mercedes allowed to buy that car ??????????
I'm sure they threw stupid money on the table, but it NEVER should have left this country... |
Those cars were worth nothing back them.MT offered a guy I knew the Yourtown blue 63 SD Tempest for $3000 in 1964.It still had the SD transaxle in it at the time. That car today would be in the $500000 range at least. They made 6 Lemans coupes,6 Tempest wagons and 2 Tempest coupe.FWIW,Tom

We had an opportunity to buy the George Delorean coupe for $3600 and turned it down.

That car was purpose built for THAT race weekend, and with no real series to race in had an even more limited future than the drag cars. I bet MB bought it fairly cheaply on a whim, intrigued by the engineering solutions with the transaxle and such. It was probably anyalyzed, dissected, discussed and scrapped within a few weeks. IIRC, Shelby almost left the Cobra Daytona Coupes in Europe rather than deal with the import/export costs of cars he knew wouldn’t be fielded competitively by his team again.

Wow, what an epic accomplishment.
