Tom The Mongoose McEwen

Just found out the The Mongoose passed away yesterday .. he was 81

I have to say that since I moved to California Tom was literally everywhere.
He was always at the races signing as well as other car shows and events.. Truly a man of the people. He seemed much more friendly than Snake was.

His '78 Corvette funny car is my all time favorite flopper.

Yeah the English Leather car was one that really stands out form when i was a kid

As a funny car lover and also an old school bmx guy, it's a sad day.
RIP 'Goose.

I had a picture cut out of a magazine of his Corvette Coors Silver bullet F/C on my bedroom wall 1981. RIP.

R.I.P. Tom. I saw an interview featuring
Tom and Don a few months ago I am happy
I took the time to watch it.

Is it true that Tom's whole drag racing carear was match racing?

big gear head 06-13-2018 08:00 PM

Tom won the US Nationals in '78. I always wondered if Don lifted a little or somehow allowed Tom to win. Tom's son had died not long before this and a win at Indy probably lifted him up a lot.

Was thinking of Jungle Jim.

A large portion, but not all.

Snake has always maintained that Tom won fair and square and knowing how competitive both guys were, I wouldn't have thought either would have wanted it any other way.

Not sure if any of you guys saw the movie Snake & Mongoose but I recommend it... It was corny in some parts but still worth the watch
