Rear leaf spring clips
 

Getting ready to remove the car from its body cart and installing the rear / front suspension back underneath.

The question I have is which clip is correct for a 67 Camaro. I'm familiar with the clip on the right, but also have another style clip that I have accumulated throughout the years.

The clip on the right with the hex nut has a "P" stamp on the back and the other clip has "CIP" stamped.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm just looking to install the correct ones in the car.

The one on the right is assy line correct.

For all three years 67 68 69 correct. That's what I always seen but I'm truly a 69 guy.

But somehow I acquired the CIP clips, which I read in Chicks Build Thread that they were original also. With that said I thought maybe the earlier (67 68 ) Camaros came with them.

I have dismantled a few first gens, mostly 69. I don't ever remember seeing the CIP style on an original car. Not saying it couldn't have happened, as GM used more than one nut and bolt supplier. I have not seen one.

Can't guess how many of the "...assembly line correct" clips shown on the right we have had to torch off when the nut breaks off the clip as torque is applied to the bolt. Why do you think the design was changed?

I would never re-use those.

I have a couple mint sets for my personal cars and I'm going to use. I'll take my chances with them possibly breaking, but I want factory assembly line parts. lol

Put some never-seize on the threads.....

The clip on the left is what GM serviced going back to the '90s. I was involved with a Camaro parts business for many years; we sold a kit with 6 of the clips and bolts.

Consider the assembly line cage nut single-use only; anti-seize won't help if the nut snaps off the clip before proper torque is reached. When that happens you can't remove the bolt. Saw many a Camaro parts car back in the day with holes hacked into the floor to get them out.
