Does anyone know where the Hurst Sunshine Special Camaros have ended up? Are all accounted for?

I used to own the yellow one. I think that is the only Camaro. I had traded it toward ZL1 # 18. It got restored by Camaro Heaven I think in Canada.

Hi Pete and Charley,

I did read about the yellow one owned by Charley but am surprised to learn the other two are missing. Hopefully they are still around somewhere since they are so unique and interesting and represent a moment in time.

Charley,
What prompted you to let this one leave your stable (other than the obvious trade up)? I would think an (only remaining or one of one) Hurst Sunshine Z28 Camaro like this would become almost a permanent fixture in your collection. Would this car still be considered extremely valuable or one of those "rare but not highly sought after" cars?

I don't know that they built more than one Camaro. I know in a book they mention 3 being built but I have never seen any documentation or any other cars. At the time I traded it I had never owned a ZL1 and had a chance to trade into one. I didn't have the cash to buy one outright. The Hurst car was also very rusty. Where the leaf springs attach forward of the diff the body panels are about 3 layers thick and they were completely swollen and rotted. Tough to fix correctly short of buying another car for body parts. Had half 1/4 panels glassed in etc. Wish I had it back now that it is restored.

Charley, Did you get it from a man in Mission Viejo, there was a guy who had a 71 RT Challenger for sale I looked at years ago a easy 20 years ago he had the Yellow Camaro in his garage and told me the history of it. I am not trying to nit-pick but...after looking at the pictures I noticed that the dash above the radio has the later 1973ish seat belt light. It is odd that when it was restored the correct non-seatbelt light dash was not installed.

I don't remember where I got it. Somewhere back east I think. A Dr Cruz had owned it. He went to Thailand or someplace like that and had paid storage on the car for a year. He never came back to get the car and could not be reached so whoever was storing it did a Lein sale on it and put it up for sale.
