VE Day...75 Years Ago.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the official end to the war in Europe. It was certainly a time for celebration for countries tired of years of death and destruction...though for most the agony continued for many years as the rebuilding process took place.
The man in the photo is a neighbor of mine...he was a Navy gunner on a landing craft at Omaha Beach, wounded that day by German machine gun fire. I think he is about 93 years old now...the gal next to him is his wife of 70 years! https://www.militarytimes.com/off-du...und-the-world/ |

This is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made by those whose served to protect our country and liberties.:flag:

Please thank your neighbor for me. We were to leave on a trip overseas next week and one of the stops would be Normandy. We were there three years ago and I wanted to get back again.

He is an author and had his own newspaper column for twenty years called; "To Make a Long Story Short"...amazing guy...he is my hero :flag::flag: The photo is me and Marty up at the camp on the West Canada... |

My father survived a plane crash in the North Sea while serving in the RCAF in England. Of course if he had not, I wouldn't be typing this. |
To all the Vets out there... thank you! :worship: :flag: :youguysrock:
