Edman Lis' 1963 Impala SS Convertible

Bruce:

I am a new member to yenko.net and I saw Belair62's request for members' rides. I wrote him and he told me to send the information directly to you and gave me your e-mail address. Unfortunately, I can only send three pictures at a time on my e-mail. So, I'll send you three or four and please let me know if you would like more photos. All that I have done to the car is maintenance, tuning and quite a bit of cleaning.

I have 20 cars and all of them are GM products with the exception of one Mopar but, this car is pretty special and I thought the folks might enjoy it.

This is a 1963 Impala SS Convertible. It has 38,413 miles on it. It is all original including Paint, Glass, Interior, Drivetrain, Convertible Top, etc. It is equipped with the following: 409/340 HP, 4-Speed, Posi-traction, PS, PB, Factory Tach and it was ordered as a radio delete car. A Motorola AM/FM was installed at the dealership along with a Motorola Alternator but I still have the radio delete plate and all of the paperwork.

I purchased the car from an 82 year old farmer and his wife at a farm auction that included a number of tractors and 1920s and 1930s cars and trucks. He purchased the car from the widow of the original owner and I have the November '86 Hemming Motor News that he circled the ad in. I also have quite a bit of paperwork including the Original Window Sicker and Owner Protection Plan.

Please see the attached pictures and I will send you some more.

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Edman Lis
Bruce:
Here's some more pictures of paperwork.
I also have a lot of pictures of the undercarriage that people might be interested in. The Impala still has original springs and front shocks. In the rear the dealer installed Delco Pleasurizer air shocks and they still work. The undercarriage, differential and transmission have quite a few inspection markings as well.
Please let me know if you would like to see more.
Thanks again for your consideration,
Ed

Bruce:

The attached photos are of the undercarriage. The only thing that I've done to the car is clean it. So, everything is pretty much original condition. Please note: Most of the exhaust is original including the mufflers.
Thanks, Ed

Bruce:

The attached are photos of the factory inspection markings. Please note the positraction and transmission tags.

That's it.

Thanks, Ed Lis

Now that is a beautiful car! Original, untouched 409's just seem to be so far and few between. My father built and raced '09's back in the day and I've spent so much time around them that they will always be my first love. Have to say that the '409' in grease pencil on the firewall is the first time I've ever seen that. You seein' this, Verne?

Now that has wow factor, a true time capsule. Amazingly untouched with all the patina and provenance you could ask for. Thanks for sharing...

------What a beautiful 63!!! Original red on red cars are just so rare and then the 409 and three pedals,,,,,whoa! Grew up somewhat close to where this car was bought new and can tell you guys from more affluent areas of the country that the fella that ordered this SS was very likely the only guy around with a deeeeluxe ride like this. The rust dissolving stuff that we have been talking about here on the sight would seem to me to be the next step.......Bill S

Wow...what a nice car. I'm learning more about the 409's as everyone I know is crazy about them. Went for my first ride in one a few weeks ago and it was quite a car.

Wow...Great car. I would treat the underside with a can of Boeshield just to further preserve it.Amazing that nobody has messed or fluffed a thing that I can see. Thanks for sharing it.

Yes, I certainly am looking.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Edman, Very nice car!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Good docs! I'm also a little surprised to see the "409" pencil on the firewall. I'm also a bit surprised to see a T-10 in a car that late. They started shipping Muncies to the plants in Feb. '63. Do you have service records for the car? The reason I ask is the power brake booster and master cyl are not the type the assembly plant would have installed, so I'm wondering if it was replaced in service. How about posting a picture of the cowl tag? Have you ever pulled the rear back to look for a built sheet? Is the VIN derivative stamped on the engine pad? There should also be a VIN on the trans case, just behind the side cover. Verifying those items would nail down the provenance of the car tight! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Sorry for so many questions, but these cars intrigue me.
