Axles

I want to buy 2 new C clip axles for a 12 bolt in a 66 Chevelle. This is not a race car but does have a 454 LS6 with a manual trans and decent traction. Any suggestions as to a vendor with a quality product? Not looking to overpay but certainly willing to pay up to get above the junk (not USA made?)products. Any suggestions as to which vendor/product? Thanks for any help.

Those would be a good choice , you would most likely break something else before the Moser street axels.

I've run the Moser C-clip street axle in one of my cars for at least 20 years that makes right at 600 hp and tq. Weighs 4108 lbs. with me in it and cuts 1.5x 60 foot times. They haven't broke yet. They weren't all that expensive back then either. Not sure what they cost now but they are a pretty nice non taper axle that installs like a stocker.

I've snapped the splined end off a twelve bolt axle without breaking anything else before.

The splined end is where they generally break on a stock axle because that's the smallest diameter of the tapered axle.

The Mosers are not tapered. They are the same diameter throughout. Matter of fact it makes them tricky to install past the seal and bearing. If you break one of these you're doing something because like I said I've run them for 20 years with abuse through 600 hp in a 2 ton street car that runs bottom 11's and they have never flinched. Not that they won't break but....I tend to think the driveshaft will go before these axles do.

I also broke the welds from the tubes, and the center rotated up into the floor.

Ouch!

Only way your going to do that is with slicks and lots of bite.

If you don't have a numbers matching rear end you should weld the tubes to the center section

and put better side gears/axles in as well. Stock stuff holds up for a little while but is on

borrowed time. If your gonna play, then spend the money now while it's all one piece.

Been there too many times and learned the hard way.

Moser axles are made in the USA with USA steel. Tom's Differentials axles are made in Ohio with USA steel. I have Moser axles in my Camaro and Tom's axles in one of my trucks. I would trust either one. The one advantage that I see in Tom's axles in that the splines are rolled instead of cut. This makes them a little stronger.
