Big News Olds Fans!!

“Got her home ...... a ‘70 F85 W31- one family car owned car since new. I purchased it from the son of the original who had put his dad’s car away in a barn in 1988. The car needs to be restored.

The car still retains all its original drivetrain with ALL W31 components present including the carb and balancer.

This W31 was ordered new at Dangerfield Motors Limited in Barrie Ontario, Canada.
I have the GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Services paperwork along with other original documents.

Special order (Y62): Rallye Red (73) , black interior w/bench (900), 4 speed (M20), 3.91, deluxe wheel (N30), and AM radio (U63) and carpets (B30).
*** (the car is currently painted black)

The car also came with a wide variety of NOS parts for 70-72 along with all the OLDS parts from a 30 year collection!!! It was a BIG haul!

Special thanks to my bro Ranjit Soomal for helping with the car/parts haul and Ron Kennedy for making it possible!

Original Owner did not order B90 trim.......

Oh the humanity...

Sam received several sets of B90 trim so we could upgrade.... nope this car is real and needs to go back to as Lansing Built her.

The car deal came with a major parts haul. The OO has an extra F85 parts car that was crushed when his building collapsed (the roof is damaged on the F85 W31 as well but the parts car took the brunt of the damage)

The original TO 3.91 anti spin rear. This will be such a great combo with the M20.

Awesome news Ryan and big congrats Sam!
Don't you dare add B90 Chrome as a '70 W31 Post w/ painted Door Frames/B-Pillars is a beautiful combo also cool this one's a Canadian car too!
Online info suggests George Dangerfield Jr. may still be alive in Barrie so could be worth tracking down for info/emblem also slim chance of Dealer paperwork?
Looking forward to updates and best of luck w/ the project!
:beers:

My offer still stands....on keeping tabs on her for Sam :)

Yippee....no B90....I agree with Pete 100% :)

Ryan you will do a great job on Sam's W-31.

Another great Ryan build to follow and with another car with solid bones. Good luck Ryan and keep us all in the loop.

My In laws lived in Barrie,so I was there lots between 77 and 87.
I used to see a lot of 70-72 Cutlasses.
Not familiar with Dangerfields, but they probably sold because they did not get much respect.

Another fine build by Mr Weaver keep us posted buddy!

Damien 02-19-2019 09:41 PM

Very cool Ryan. I'm sure you guys will make her right!
I look forward to following along.

Ryan1969Chevelle 02-19-2019 09:58 PM

Thanks for all the votes of confidence!!!

I am looking forward to doing a more in depth project this time. (I can eat those words in the future :-))

Sam is already looking for 4.66 gears so we can play at PSMCDR :-) I learned from my car that it is imperative to stay on track... we will decide up front if it is to be stock or Banzi-Stock.

I really enjoyed the restoration process and this will be a major learning curve yet again, there are lots of items on my car that stayed as is... this car is a little tougher and needs more love!!

Olds W31...

Cool car...does it run now?? Couldn't decipher from the thread...

Good luck.

Looks like it’ll be a straightforward resto; everything is there! Get it done and bring it down to the east coast of the good ole’ USA! Between Minore, Tweed, Jeff Kane and your’s truly, we could get some good ‘31 grudge racin’.....

Never known you to use profanity.....

Rixls6 02-23-2019 07:04 AM

This will be fun to watch Sam and Ryan.
Sam has the right guy to help here, being that Ryan is fresh off his own W31 resto.
Way to jump headlong into the hobby.

Ryan1969Chevelle 02-23-2019 09:57 AM

Thanks guys!!

Sam and I are going to meet together, look over the car end to end, and then chunk it out... (decide where to disassemble, what order to restore the car, et)

I have been looking into sheds, but as always things cost money... I should have known :-) I need a close by place to work on the car. Thinking......
