Clean '66 Chevelle #s SS396/4-sp, California Black Plate

Cool car - I remember when this would have been a $15k car in California back in the day, and there always seemed to be a couple old black-plate cars parked on every block....

Nice Fremont partial VIN stamp!

----Nice 66! Huh! No guages or knee knocker. Also,,,I can't remember, is that the correct shifter handle? Looks more like a non-console handle....Bill S

No pic of the vin on the trans. Might be because by the trim tag, the car came with a 761, black bench seat and standard 3 speed. No line 2 with L or G.
The original combo is nearly the same as mine was. Lemonwood over Black, but mine was built with buckets and console with the 3 speed.

It’s good looking car at a glance. A driver. But it’s clearly been messed with. As evidenced by that switch from Bench Seat to buckets and console. Now sporting two clocks for those who are need of time at every glance!! Clearly original dash cluster Bare bones car. A repaint at some point. Wrong seat covers or bad repros. Someone had extra rattle can undercoating coupons. No ability to see if Rear is original to car the partial vin on trans would be on top of case for Fremont so doubtful they went through trouble of verification there.

Fremont trim tags don’t always show typical options so can’t say a whole lot about it without a POP. NO smog equipment left in engine bay. But indeed a very classic Fremont Deck Stamp EH Code Manual Tranny.

The very odd thing about this car in my opinion is the floor pans. I’m not surprised at the yellow paint/Body color to that extent on a Fremont 66 but I think whenever this car was repainted… someone must have tried to replicate that overspray as evidenced by the components with yellow paint on them which would not have been on the vehicle at the point of assembly line paint. But this repaint must have been a long time ago because based on the overall condition of engine bay and that underbelly…. The car wasn’t backyard restored recently.

Hopefully that pinstripe down the side is a decal and not painted on !!

Not much I can add that hasn't already been said, but, with a dash clock and a bench seat four speed shift lever, I'd guess the Muncie MAY be the original. As Mike said, VIN is stamped on case top-side.

You can't beat solid CA sheetmetal, with cleanup and sweat some details this could be an enjoyable driver. - Bill W
