2018 GMC Yukon XL OR 2018 Ford Expedition

Need to buy a new tow vehicle. I have always purchased a new Yukon Xl 2500. You can't get a 2500 anymore. I don't want a pickup. My trailer and car wt. is about 8,000. The new 2018 GMC Yukon XL 1500, comes with a 5.3 V8 engine 355 hp-383 torque with a 6 speed transmission with a 342 rear. max tow 8000. lbs. The new 2018 Ford Expedition El comes with a 3.5 eco boost V6 400hp-480lb torque, 10 speed trans. tow rating 9300 lbs. Any ideas?

The largest engine in the Yukon XL is the 5.3 however if you buy the Denali edition you get the 6.2 L V8. The 2018 will have a 10 speed trans. I am not convinced the Ford Ecoboost is tough enough in the long term. I see you are living on the East Coast and may encounter a trip across the Appellation range or into the Great Smokeys and you will wish you had the V8.
I have a 2003 Yukon XL 2500 with Quadrasteer. Its the best dam towing vehicle on the planet, The Quadrssteer feature is the reason I still have it and not bought something Newer.

The 2018 Denali comes with the 6.2 and a 10 speed trans, but you only get a 3.23 rear. The max tow rating is 8100.

I can't comment on the towing ability, but last November I bought a new 2017 Ford Expedition (not the EL) with the 3.5 Ecoboost V6 and I have been very pleasantly surprised at the power it has. I traded in a 2010 GMC Yukon with the 5.3, and before that I had a 2002 Tahoe with the 5.3, so I am quite familiar with that engine, and I had no problems with it. This is only the second Ford product I have owned in my life, and thus far I am very happy with it.

I tow a 8000 lb. Cobalt boat with a 2015 GMC Denali XL and get 11.5 mpg and it has a 6 speed transmission. I too purchased nothing but a 2500 Suburban with a 454 or 496 but when they switched to a 6.0 it sounded like a circus organ shifting All the time. You will be VERY happy with a 2018 GMC Denali XL. When not towing it gets 23 mpg! And I own a gas station!

I have been driving denalis since 03. My last lease was a 2015 Yukon XL, NOT a Denali. I had so many problems with the underpowered 5.3, and 6 spd auto, that GMC ended up buying it back and putting me in a 16 Denali. I would stay away from the 5.3 6 spd auto.

Another vote for Yukon Denali. 420 HP, 460 LB-FT torque. Love mine.

Buy the Denali XL, you won't be sorry. Just my very biased opinion. LOL

Transmissions continuously shifting is unbelievably aggravating. I'm dealing with it on my new work truck too.
