Goodyear Tire Identification Help

4 Attachment(s)
I have a chance to buy these Goodyear tires that are in great shape. These would not be drivers but perhaps put on for shows or trunk spares. I looked at some codes and the CYL code could indicate a 1971 tire ? Need some assistance from someone more tire knowledgeable than myself.

Two questions - are they true vintage tires or reproductions ? What kind on money should I spend ?

Thanks for all opinions !

I have been searching out tire DOT codes on the internet. I have found one person on the internet who states that first two letters "CY" are the plant code for McCreary Tire Plant in Indiana, PA and that is the plant where the Goodyear reproduction tires are manufactured.

Last three digits 281 most likely indicate the 28th week of 1991.

Still like to hear if anyone else can second this opinion or has other information/experience with these type of tires.

Thanks !

Goodyear Tire Identification Help

Don: I do not think that the reproduction goodyear tires have the V-1 Code on the front side, but I could be wrong. I hope this helps!

Does it say nylon

Perhaps the V-1 callout gives a clue to the tire's true vintage. Any online images of the current reproductions tires I see don't seem to show that much sidewall detail.

Not sure about "nylon" on the tire. All the owner knows about the tires is that they were on a 1969 Camaro he bought and has since sold.

I did not see any SAFETY WARNING type writing on the tire sidewall, but I was concentrating on the front side and not the back side.

The seller is not far so it sounds like I may have to make a return visit in the New Year to re-examine with this new information.

Thanks !

Happy New Year ! I'm getting older but still learning.

I found this posting on Camaros.Net forums, and this is the tire decode format that I am going to go with.

https://www.camaros.net/forums/17-wh...date-code.html

So here is the decode of the tires that I found : CY LD B3 K7 281

CY = McCreary Tire & Rubber Company
LD = Indiana, PA – tire plant
B3 = Goodyear model #3
K7 = Mold system K #7
28 = 28th week
1 = year 1991

Listed below are some DOT Manufacturer Codes (first two characters) that may prove useful to others trying to decode other vintage tires.

What do the other DOT codes look like? Can you text me what they look like...

Yes, they are the reproductions built in PA.
