Triple Black '65 Impala SS 409/4-sp Convertible

If this is a real 409 car, or a real triple-black car, or either - for that matter - it's a pretty awesome find.

----I have no idea if this 65 is the same one I saw at BJ way back in the early part of this century. The one there was just as beautiful and looked identical to this one but started life as a 283 glide car. That car went for big money back then and later I talked with the guy that bought it and told him what he bought. He said he would just bring it back next year and resell it. He didn't seem bothered at all, but then he was sitting in the bidders bar!......Bill S

so how can you tell if it was a real 409 car ??

Looks like a private seller and no reserve.

When did the 396 debut in the full size cars?

Probably showing my ignorance here, but didn't some Chevelles and Corvettes get a 396?

The BB 396 was a mid-year intro to the Chevy line-up...probably around March of 1965 from what I have read. The L78 version [396/425hp was available in the Corvette and the full size Chevy models] there was also a 325hp version in the big cars. The 396 was also available with the Z-16 option in the Malibu SS...it was a hydraulic motor rated at 375hp. There were around 200 of these built...they are rare and command big money.

The 425hp rating for the L78 was a one year deal...the 427/425hp was introduced in 1966...and the L78 was then rated 375hp in the Chevelle.

----It's been a long time. At the time I had a friend with me that knew these cars backwards and forwards and he pointed out small stuff all over the car, mostly under the hood. I want to remind all that I have no idea if this is the same car. For one thing the car for sale doesn't have good enough pictures to make any kind of determination whatsoever!..….Bill S
