1968 Camaro SS L78 4 speed
I am offering this car here, to see if there would be any interest from the forum members before I go about marketing this car.
1968 Camaro SS. L78 396 / 375hp 4 speed. Factory installed engine and rear diff (BV 4.10 posi). Non original Muncie Transmission. Believed to be 25k original miles Grotto Blue with black standard interior. Documented with warranty book, Protect-O-Plate, and dealer order form. Also has original owners manual and owners manual bag. Beautiful ground up restoration completed in 2012 with many factory components. Originally optioned with......... -L78 396 / 375hp -M21 Close ratio 4 speed -BV 4.10 Positraction diff -Disc brakes / power brakes -Deep tone muffler -Rediline tires (more on this later) The car currently has some Day 2 liberties that are easily reversed back to stock. Day 2 parts include..... -Hurst shifter -Scattershield -Hooker Headers -True dual exhaust with turbo mufflers -Sun tach, oil pressure gauge, and temp gauge (with proper sender) -Camshaft of unknown specs MCACN Day 2 Gold Certified. Spectacular BC/CC paint. Laser straight body with excellent body gaps. Awesome original interior (replacement carpet). Well finished, detailed, and maintained engine compartment and chassis. The car is also provided with a complete, properly dated, and restored smog system (from Bill Hodel) including exhaust manifolds. This car runs cool, drives straight, stops well, and runs HARD! Rear diff is quiet, trans upshifts and downshifts smooth, great clutch (no chatter). I have recently contacted and conferred with the original owner. Super nice fellow who confirmed the car was delivered with redline tires. He special ordered this car in April of 68. He simply wanted the quickest car Chevrolet could offer him. He always had a daily driver thus, this car never saw daily duty. Owner history will be provided to the new owner. He suspects he had the car until 1975 and mileage was in the low teens. It is thought the second owner had the car from approximately 1976 until 2010 (unproven). For additional information and honest description of what I see and how I feel about the car, do not hesitate to contact me. I'll be following up with plenty more detailed pics. My first impression too. Grotto Blue, sounds dull and unexciting. What a surprise to open the link..SUPER nice color, almost like Carolina Blue. I prefer the '67's because of the side markers and vent windows, but WOW, WOW, WOW, what a sweet Camaro... Someone is going to be a very lucky person to own that car. |
Thanks for the kind words guys. Just to show how much I like this car, I'll offer this.......
I think some of you are familiar with some of the cars I have / do own personally. The same could be said for my Dad as well. The fact of the matter is, my Dad owned this car. He and I both are smitten with the car. I took it back from him as I found him a 17,000 mile L79 Corvette roadster. I gladly took this car back as I had (and still do) miss the Harry Mann L78 / L88 car that Paul has. This car is THAT nice IMO. I purchased to smog from Bill Hodel due to the fact I was going to hang onto this car. What has changed as I have had a 66 Corvette L72 (very original and highly awarded) car drop into my crosshairs. As some of you know, these Corvette's run deep with my family. I only have so much room for personal cars, so something (unfortunately) has to go. Just a little sidebar to the conversation at hand and a peek into my head:naughty: Tim |
Addition to the current building ...:dunno:
Super nice car to let go of. |

Factory knock off car (with all 5 wheels), factory gold line car, tele column, radio delete, 3.08 posi., HD suspension. The body and the patina is just to die for. I was bidding on the car at a Mecum auction about 10 years ago (Proteam won out). Was seriously in love with it then. When I saw the car again, I was to say the least......."in heat":naughty: I have been on a streak of finding some really killer cars as of late. Frankly, I could find a reason to keep them ALL! You guys will see a couple of others I have found, as I'll post them here first before going about my ways. Once I get the 66, I'll get familiar with it, photograph the car, and give it to Bruce. It's honestly been years since I have been this excited about a car! Tim |
Wow Tim, I’m partial to Island Teal but Grotto looks fantastic as well! The interior of this car is identical to mine, even down to the Sun gauges and I added a period Sun tach shortly after getting it from you. The idle on your car sounds fantastic as well. GLWTS.

Beautiful Camaro. I had a chance in 1973 to buy a family member's all factory 68 SS Camaro 396-375 hp engine 4 speed 4.10 gear ratio dark red with white strip for 1,800.00 dollars. He was getting married and was a Vietnam Vet who ordered it brand new when he came back from his tour there. Low miles all original Camaro. To this day i kick myself.

At least "GMcarBuyer" did not win the auction, I assume that would not have been a pleasant transaction.
Too bad the trolls on BaT are getting so much worse, but in the end I suppose that's the nature of the medium. This was worth well above the top bid and should sell soon. I see, increasingly, that some cars are not showing up on the front page feed when the listings go live and others aren't showing up in the daily emails, either. Hopefully that didn't happen on this ultra-nice L78. |
