1991 Z28 5.0 TPI ignition timing
I helped my son with an engine rebuild for the aforementioned car. He dropped the engine back in and neglected to set the initial static timing on the distributor. I vaguely remember having to disconnect the distributor from the ECM in order to properly set the initial distributor timing. Does anybody remember what the proper procedure is for this car?

Re: 1991 Z28 5.0 TPI ignition timing
Sold my IROC a few years ago, and it's been a while since I had to time a TPI engine, but there is a brown wire near/above the heater/AC box that needs to be disconnected. Just unplug the wire, time the engine, then reconnect the plug.
Hope this helps. |

Many thanks, hope to take a little "spin" in it before the snow hits again tomorrow!
